Massive car bombs kill dozens in London and New York!!!.....

Oh sorry that was Baghdad.....

I bloody hate it when I see these headlines and I dont even blink.

We need a fucking reality check here in the UK and the US.

These people just want to get on with thier lives as well - I hate the idea that we watch these headlines and almost dont see it as news anymore.

Rant over.

scottybuzz 02-18-2007 10:28 AM

i remember when the london bombings happend, they interviewed an iraqi doctor working in london and he honestly couldnt see what the fuss was about as stuff like that happens every day where he comes from.

themonk 02-18-2007 10:29 AM

yeah .. not a big deal

Furious_Male 02-18-2007 10:55 AM

I have to admit I am very desensitized to those headlines now.

I guess that's human nature but it is disturbing that a headline like "15 dead in Baghdad blast" has the same affect on me as "Elderly man falls and breaks leg in Walmart Parking Lot".

I still dont get it - I cried on 9/11, I cried 7/7 - I didnt know any of those people.

Yet I turn on the TV and see "X" amount of people have been blown up in Iraq every morning and I dont give them a second thought.

What part of my 'Human nature' makes me like that?

Perhaps its that we are tribal and I see the US as part of my tribe?

We had bombs going off in London. I remember because I lived close enough to have my windows shake when the IRA bomb went off in Docklands.

As for Iraq, we will be paying for these mistakes for a long time.

CyberHustler 02-18-2007 12:12 PM

you people need to read ISHMAEL, STORY OF B, and MY ISHMAEL... all three were written by DANIEL QUINN

I was working at the Royal London when the Docklands bombs went off - The first one scared me - the second one pissed me off because I was going on a date and I knew - with that bang - I wasnt going to get laid that night.

The IRA bombs didnt have the impact as these lastest batch though.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, in Iraq you've got Sunni populations who harbour Sunni terrorists and Shia populations which harbour Shia terrorists, and they do almost nothing to expose the terrorists in their midsts. So it hardly warrants much sympathy when they get blown up by terrorists.

Perhaps if they sat down and had a think, perhaps thinking about how just maybe if they abandoned this ridiculous belief system called Islam which is causing all the misery, and perhaps how if they committed themselves to respecting the rights of women, homosexuals, atheists and non-Muslims, and actively took up getting rid of the terrorists who hide amongst them, then maybe just maybe they would be worthy of some sympathy when something bad happens to them.

But the reality of course is that they believe in this fascist Islamic faith which is totally anti-human, so if they get blown up then oh well, never mind.

Of course, the innocents among them deserve some sympathy but not a great deal. The Iraqis got themselves into this mess.

Double sorry to 12clicks - I was on my high horse and read what I wanted to read.

DaddyHalbucks 02-18-2007 12:25 PM

You think the savagery is bad now?

If the US pulls out of Iraq prematurely it will spark a regional and perhaps global war.

The difference is Democrats don't blow up replublicans with car bombs on a weekly basis. We have differences, but we settle them in a nice way.

I totally get why you started this thread but you just made me jump out of my skin for a second. It isn't exactly unheard of for cars to blow up in London.

Rigg 02-18-2007 03:10 PM

Rant over.

I'm kind of laughing at this thread, and here's why...

Every day, for DECADES there are innocent people being slaughtered in Africa and Southeast Asia. In many, many countries. Many of these incidents are fueled by religious differences, many by political differences, many by power differences, and the list goes on. Every day. EVERY DAY.

And in this thread the only incident you speak of is the one in Baghdad. What about the Africans? What about the Asians? What about the South Americans? And the former Soviets?

If you want a real reality check, realize that this happens all over the world and the only reason you're upset about Baghdad is because there are British troops and the media throws it in your face every day.

I don't know how many times I've seen the Iraq War being compared to WWII and Vietnam, then the article goes on to mention the 3100 American troops that have died. Its very unfortunate that any of them died, but frankly I think comparing the Iraq losses to the WWII/Vietnam losses is a gross and insulting comparison to the hundreds of thousands who were killed and maimed in those wars.

Had the TV and Internet been around in 1940, I'd be speaking German.

MartiniGirl 02-18-2007 03:22 PM

Or world goes crazy - every day we hear about this f**king terrorists!

I do understand where you are coming from - the genoside in Rwanda, what is happening in Darfor today and a 100 other things that are hapening all over the world. I chose Baghdad becaue it is something we can all relate to at this point in time.

I am aware there are many more topics I coud have chosen.
