Living/Visiting Malaysia
Anybody Living in/Visiting Malaysia at the moment?
Recently I have been reading about the floods in some parts of the country, if you are there, how does it look like where you are? I am considering my visit of eastern (penisula) part. |
planning my trip over there for august/september, from what I have seen its an awesome country. Going to fly all over the place there.
No idea about the floods right now, hope they are over when I arrive ;))) |
I went there last year. Amazing country, very diverse. Highlights of my trip were Borneo, Cameron Highlands and the Perhentian Islands.
On Borneo, we stayed near Kuching and visited several natural parks. A must if you are a nature fan. The Cameron Highlands (in the center of East-Malaysia) was a welcome cool. I absolutely loved the tea plantations there. If you like long walks, ask for the 'Machine of the Jungle' or 'Kali'. He's a 63 year old guide who knows everything about the jungle and the plantations and he will show you amazing places. The Perhentians Islands (north-east of East Malaysia) are awesome. I shouldn't be telling about this, because it should be kept quiet. It is a beautiful piece of nature that isn't destroyed yet by tourists. Don't expect big boats to take you there and nice luxuary hotels. You have to talk to locals to take you there. There are only few accomodations there, but it has an amazing atmosphere. In the evenings, people are playing beach volleyball on the beach and afterwards they gather at Long Beach for partying. Damn, I want to go there again :) Oh, and I didn't have any problems with floods. I went in July/August 2006 |
I went about 12 years ago - so things may have changed, but I found it WAY too 'dirty'.
I have been to India and a few 3rd world countries but Malaysia was gross even by thier standardss. In short, I didnt like it at all. Agin, this was 12 years ago though. |
i have a good friend in kuala lumpur. she says its very hot and the humidity is so high.

KL is a really cool city, very clean for an asian city - closer in apprearnance and feel to Hong Kong than Bangkok, there are really good bars round the Bungsaar area - with hot asian rich chics
The Perenthian islands are gorgeous, and a must. Pure white sand, blue water, good diving, turtles and giant monitor lizards - Pretty cheap too, but booze isnt that easy to get hold of. I would avoid Penenag, historically interesting, but a bit of a dive tbh |
