Spam Me: Looking for a host with a few specifics...
I am looking for a host. Not for my main business, just for some extra sites, AVS sites, galleries, and other non-critical. I want a reliable service, but don't need a ton of bandwidth, and would be happy with less than premium bandwidth.
Here's what I need: - Cheap - Starting about 5-10 gigs a month - Unlimited FTP accounts, created via control panel - Limiting what directories each FTP can modify - At least a dozen domains, preferably unlimited - Linux, BSD, or Mac OS X - Apache - Cheap Here's what I would love: - On Apple hardware running Mac OS X - Attentive, flexible, and technically competent support Who can make me a good offer, or knows where I should look? |
prohosters
or u cna go right to their irc channel using an irc client: irc.prohosters.com channel: #prohosters they have good service and some cheap virtual plans tell em I sent you and maybe those cocksmokers will give me a credit or something |

I've got everything you mentioned above. (Non-cogent B/W, not the same connection as my Freehost) |
why so many domains for such little bandwidth ;)
|
unlimited domains, 10 gigs a month
lemme guess you don't own a movie post :) |
ICQ me man
|
ProHosters: $3 a gig for their smallest plan, overages at $5 a gig. I guess that's the way it is with dinky plans, though, huh?
Okay, there's one option. Any other takers? |

So far, offers look like about 40¢ a gig. I take it nobody can beat that?
So, here's what I would be tempted by at this point... 1. Mac server... Come on! Anyone? 2. Control panel with more flexibility limiting FTP accounts to certain directories than Ensim offers. 3. Control panel that allows me to manage my own domains, if one exists. 4. Someone I already work with on other projects. |
You can check out these
they are solid http://phatservers.net/shared.html we are not buying servers for $99 bucks at rackshack like most in this price range are and puting you on those. |
For this project, I don't need premium... I need flexible and cheap. I am using a great host for my main sites, but for feeder sites, I think I am happy to get 40¢ a gig (from $10 a month) even if it isn't exactly the most premium bandwidth/server/etc.
Me = poor Cheap = good |
|
Cologroup looks good. Minimum $50 a month doesn't look good... Think "dinky little account" and "scalable"... ;)

You want unlimited user acct, and control panel etc but don't even wanna go Fitty on it? If Fitty ain't dinky I don't know what is. I use webair.com too, thats more expensive (non cogent) you won't have many choices without wanting to spend something. :glugglug |
I know, I'm being cheap. I'm still a small-fry, and I'm genuinely poor just now. I have been offered at least one deal at $10 a month, and am willing to take the risks involved since it isn't my paysites, just feeders. Just trying to minimize expenses.

You all are bidding to try to beat .40 cents a gig, and then add in tech support etc...hahahahaha:1orglaugh :1orglaugh |

5 to 10 gigs, and STILL want a lower price than $4 per month? LO fucking L i know people that push 10,000 gigs per month and pay more than 40 cents per gig. you get the price down to 30 cents per gig, you saved a dollar per month! woohoo! come on now, be reasonable. i piss a dollar of pepsi every time i go to the bathroom. :1orglaugh |
hahmike, you're a nice guy really.
|
No, I don't want a lower price than $4 a month. I think I mentioned that I found a deal for $10 a month. I totally expect people to have minimums. Yes, $10 a month is low... but can I ask you why it is wrong to look for the best deal I can get on something?

I think it's "within reason for the package I'm at" pretty much. That's why I am looking for someone flexible, and why its worth getting these little sales-- these little accounts grow. Not to huge proportions, but hey, money's money.

That's some magic with the numbers! lol Brad |
You can get 10 gigs for $19.95 at
phatservers.net and autson.com |

Brad No shit! Im going to link my small virtual account to them and sit back and drink margaritas all day collecting my $500 a pop |
Shit yeah... I'll send whoever that is all my virtual clients too for a $500 referral bonus! LOL ;-)
And, I think I should point out, the key part of Goth's request is that we find him a host where he can create unlimited amounts of FTP logins. It doesn't seem to me that anyone has specifically addressed that with their hosting suggestions. Brad |

Don't know a thing about them. But they submitted to Sinfoseek Webmasters Area. You can check them out if you want. |
If you want a small cheap plan. blackseven.com (Rage) offers 9$ a month, mostly unlimited everything...10gigs of transfer.
Plus you get your second month free...so you end up paying 9$ for 2 months. |
Rather then start another "I'm looking for hosting" thread. I figure that I will just add on to this one.
I'm looking for: - *nix - Cheap Bandwidth (heh) - Cold Fusion - MySQL - reasonable amount of storage I don't have a ton of traffic yet. But my site is mainly movies, so as traffic grows, bandwith grows a lot. ICQ me: 165486536 -Rev. |
