What's a good registrar these days?

I've been a reseller for my current one for about 6 years. Lately their customer service has sucked. Truth be told, there is no customer service there. I can't get through on their phone lines and they do not respond to emails or their ticket system.

So...I'm looking for a new provider for all of my domain name needs.

I spoke with Moniker a few months back. They quoted me an agreeable price but then they dropped the ball on setting things up.

So......Who else should I consider?

TheDoc 02-16-2007 07:51 PM

www.enom.com

I have been moving everything over from regfly - so far enom has been a great service.

Thanks anyway.

BoyAlley 02-16-2007 07:55 PM

Yeah, I dont know what the fuck happened with Enom. I used to be able to get on the phone with support, no problem. Now, I call and I hear "Expected wait time, 2 hours 8 minutes," and I just hang up.

Exactly. Back when I first started doing business with them, I had Matt Stearn's direct number and he would personally get shit done for me. Since he left the company, they have gone to complete shit. :2 cents:

fusionx 02-16-2007 07:59 PM

I'm using namecheap - not sure if they resell for Enom or not. Don't think so. I also don't know how they deal with large portfolios. They've been great for me with customer service, etc.

AEBN uses Directnic. The admins seem to love those guys - they manage about 3500 domains.

RedShoe 02-16-2007 08:02 PM

I've used natnames since Vegas 2001. Andrew has always been very helpful and very easy to get on the phone. Tell him RedShoe sent you.... no.. actually better not do that I have no clout anywhere.

Good to know. I'll pick their brains tomorrow.

Thank you.

Oh, is that what happened? Damn.

I wouldnt even mind holding for a long time, because I just work at my computer and keep the phone on speaker, but their number is not toll free. So calling from Cali to their headquarters in Bellevue, Washington costs me an arm and a leg.

I have a Vonage line so there is no long distance but I refuse to stay on hold for that long. That's not customer service, it's customer neglect.

With enom buying and integrating BulkRegister into their system over the last few months and now the RegisterFly thing, I suspect they're stretched a tad thin right now.

Oh.. I was using BulkRegister and more recently NameCheap..

DaddyHalbucks 02-16-2007 09:21 PM

Give Moniker another try.

:2 cents:

chaze 02-16-2007 09:23 PM

I heard of this really good one, www.ezdomainname.com :1orglaugh

pocketkangaroo 02-16-2007 09:24 PM

I use GoDaddy for a lot of stuff and am happy. I'm able to get a human on the phone right away with them and think their support is the best out of any registrar I've used.

Have you not read about the RegisterFly mess? Since they were a reseller until last year, a large part of their domains are technically registered with eNom, but the domains are still managed through the RF control panel. Which doesn't work anymore.

eNom is giving everyone until March 9 to get them out or you basically lose the domain. The only way you can update, get auth codes, etc., is to call eNom and hope you get someone nice enough to help you. I called Monday morning about 9:00 am but only had to hold for 25 mins. People are panicked and flooding their support. That's probably what's been causing a lot of the delays for the last month or two with eNom.

Welcome. NameCheap has great end user tools - things work as expected. The bulk management tools work well. But again, I don't know much about large portfolio usage.

Wow. I can see why that might extend hold times just a bit.

Well, I considered that when I saw their boot in the hall at Internext. So I stood there for about 15 minutes looking for somebody to talk to. They decided to jump from person to person without even acknowledging my presence.

Holly, none of that excuses them not responding to emails and such.

Aaron, I am sorry that you felt ignored at Internext, and I can assure you that would not have been our intention, however it is possible, as there was a good amount going on. I do not remember seeing you (based on the photograph on your profile), but that does not mean it didn't happen. With regard to your emails not being responded to, I am VERY surprised at that, but we do have fairly agressive spam filters in place for our mail system, and sometimes they are over-agressive.

If you are not adverse to it, I will do my best to prove our good reputation to you. What email address would you like me to contact you at? or perhaps ICQ would be better?

MacDevilish 02-17-2007 01:20 PM

AaronM, Your ICQ number from this board is also showing an "invalid number" status, so I am unable to contact you that way. Can you post what your current ICQ number is, so that I can contact you through that system? Perhaps it would aleviate any, email filter issues... Cheers!

Evil E 02-17-2007 01:21 PM

Any word about dotster and adult? They are doing business since 2000.

seeric 02-17-2007 01:27 PM

wow, im really surprised that moniker dropped the ball. i use them and directnic for all my domain registrar stuff and directnic has great support as well.

moniker has always been on it for me.

I never said you didn't respond to my emails, I said Enom didn't respond. I called your office, talked to a rep who gave me the price I was looking for, and then the rep dropped the ball. FYI, I called because Chipmunk spoke to me about your service at one of the Amsterdam shows....Apparently he is no longer with Moniker though.

[email protected] and keep an eye out for the spamarrest verification email.

Thanks for your reply.

Angeliquexxx 02-17-2007 09:28 PM

I use godaddy too... I had to close a site recently cause I lost a domain name that I didn't renew in time because there was a problem I didn't know about with my credit card on file. It was my fault though not godaddys, but it still sucked!

Damn! I've used enom for years, but I've never had a really important issue they couldn't resolve.
