Man With a Year to Live Wins Lottery; No Lump Sum Offered
51-year-old Upstate New York resident Wayne Schenk, who was told he had a year to 18 months to live last December fell upon good times recently when he bought a winning scratch-off worth a million dollars. The problem is, no lump sum is possible.
He was hoping to use the winnings to help extend his life at a hospital that specializes in advanced-stage cancers. He said, "I understand money can't buy everything, but money can prolong things, you know?" A lump sum of $200k was offered, but is only about half of what he needs for treatment. A lottery spokesman said "We're incredibly sympathetic, but we're not able, because of our rules and regulations, to just write him a (lump-sum) check." source: http://www.democratandchronicle.com |
that's fucking lame :(

There are plenty of annuity buying companies that will take it if the state lottery won't offer it to him. He's got quite a few options with that ticket to get his cash up front.

JG Wentworth will probably give him 60-80% on a lottery payout.
A private note buyer will probably go as high as 90%. |
Damn..talk about rotten luck

As others indicated, there are plenty of people who will purchase a bonefide winning ticket.
There are lots of scammers out there, so its best to proceed cautiously. ADG Webmaster |

There was a guy around here in Suffolk county who just won 42$ million off a 5$ quick pick, random numbers (meaning he didnt even pick numbers!) . He took it upfront and got a 14$ million check......I say the odds of getting hit by some public transportation and sueing the state for millions are better then the odds of winning the lottery...:thumbsup .. :upsidedow
