I'm Quitting

I had my last smoke at 12am tonight. They say 72 hours is the length of time before all nicotine leaves your body. So, if I'm not posting by Wednesday, watch the news for the latest chain of kitten explosions in the midwest.:)

Wish me luck.:winkwink:

People who can't quit cold turkey are P-U-S-S-I-E-S.

SetTheWorldonFire 08-04-2002 12:30 AM

You'll be back! :rasta

Fletch XXX 08-04-2002 12:43 AM

I am glad I quit smoking cigarettes when I did, it was hard but man it was worth it.

Easy to fight off now.:winkwink: :thumbsup :glugglug

stick with it.

B40 08-04-2002 12:47 AM

You can do it! :thumbsup

MarkTiarra 08-04-2002 01:12 AM

For what it's worth, I noticed that friends of mine who quit successfully are the ones who realized that the ritual of smoking was a way of giving themselves mental breaks throughout the day (like a 5 minute meditation of sorts). So they made it a point to continue to take those breaks and releave daily stress, just without the ciggy to go along with it.

I can tell you without hesitation that i am not a pussy.

I began chewing tobacco when i was 12 because it was cool & made me feel good. At 16 my mother asked me to smoke instead (not because she condoned smoking but... ) because at least if i smoked i might live to be old enough to choose not to use tobacco (whereas with dip/chew you can die as young as 22).

At 25 i was smoking 1.5 packs a day and chewing a can every day... while talking to my doctor i was advised that nictone is as addictive as heroin.

At 25 i quit that shit using zyban. Doesnt work for everybody, but its been almost 2 year now... i'm proud of quitting, but occasionally still have a strong desire to use tobacco. (my desires generally center around dip instead of smoking becuase dip tasted great with no side effects while smoking made me feel like shit).

Just my thoughts.. but if you havent ever been addicted to nicotine, you dont really understand how strong it is.

Tobacco is a plague that is far under estimated.

no its more like 6 days. the 3rd day is the worst.
I quit at 6am last monday.

wednesday was the worst day.. i actually bought a pack.. lit one up..
it was disgusting!
i put out the smoke and ripped up the pack

so now its sunday.. the urges are fewer.. but they dont drive me crazy.. just think of the cash you'll save every year and you'll be fine.

also when you get your urges to smoke.. take deep breaths.. hold your breath.. just experiment. thats what its all about..breathing

You can make it.. i smoked close to 2 packs a day. now i smoke none

Hooper 08-04-2002 01:27 AM

Just think to yourself "I'll live a happier life".

The key part being "I'll Live".

I dont believe anybody can quit til they honestly consider their own moratlity.

ausboy 08-04-2002 01:32 AM

Both Hooper and MarkTiarra make good points, break the habit, don't break your routine, take breaks as you normally would when you were smoking, live your life as if you were still smoking.

I used gum, patches, zyban and those inhalers, and cold turkey is the only way I managed.

It's been 8 months now, and the cravings do still hit and hit hard, but I know now I am strong enough to beat them. My in-laws gave it away over 10 years ago, and they still get cravings now and then.

No one I know who has been off that shit for more than a year has said it was easy to beat. Bad news is nicotine is a severely adictive drug, and it will take every ounce of your character to beat it. Good news is it has been done by millions of people, and it can be done by you if you are committed to it.

I dont understand how people get addicted to ciggarettes. I smoke somethimes, but never feel the urge for it, just for fun or when I am drunk. Ciggarettes are really nasty.

kmanrox 08-04-2002 01:39 AM

jesus mother fucking CHRIST, stop whining and bitchin about it... we all know you are quitting

YAY

quit being such a dependant fucking pussy already

god damn

Gimmy 08-04-2002 01:43 AM

I once quit my job, cause I knew I was getting fired for screwing my boss's daughter in my office during work :)

Hustlin Entertainment 08-04-2002 01:44 AM

sexyavs 08-04-2002 03:46 AM

Fuck it..

Keep smoking!

Too many people on this planet anyway..

Don't believe all the stop smoking hype..

Smoking is very good for the economy.. you realize how much tax you pay in that tobacco!!

Chris

Thanks, guys, still goin strong on day 2. Everytime I have the urge, I just kind of face it head on. I think marktiarra is very right about the 5 minute thing.

It's actually kind of enlightening. It's sort of like making a zen state of mind out of anxiety. Kinda creepy.

Let's hope I can keep it up, for the kittens, at least.:thumbsup

And how many jobs you create! From clean up to health care professionals to embalming you at the mortuary. Not to mention the attorneys that will file suit once you pass on.

Everytime you get the urge, punch yourself in the face. Negative reenforcement is the way to go.

I actually made it 49 hours till my x whore showed up here today puffing away, i started on hers then went and bought a pack. Im gonna smoke this fucker then start clubbing myself with shit everytime I want one. I'll either quit or get locked up in a rubber room where they wont buy me cigs anyway.

It's a win-win situation.

hybrid 08-05-2002 12:53 AM

Actually, a very interesting thing; I had actually quit for a full week about 6 months ago, and in that time, I started to notice that women were eyeing me a lil more often than usual.

My girlfriend explained to me that because my circulation was back up, my face had more color to it, making me seem more virile (is that how u spell it?).

Anyhow, of course that wasn't good enough for me, cuz i already got me a wonderful woman, but it's motivation nonetheless.

To virility, if nothing else!:Graucho

UnseenWorld 08-05-2002 01:01 AM

Good for you! Keep at it. You won't regret it.

woj 08-05-2002 01:46 AM

Speaking of smoking, for those who are not interested in quiting, you can buy some cheap premium brands (marlboro, camel, winston, etc) at [ http://www.wojfun.com/onlinesmoker/ ] only $17.95 per carton.

I have been doing business with them for a while now, they sell fresh quality products and you usually receive the smokes with a week or 2.
