funny...my pug *just* got done eating part of a banana. she loves it. I can't crack the skin of one without her being right by my side. It is a bit funny to watch her eat it because of how set back pug teeth are.

My parents used to keep a basket of apples where my dog could reach them. When he was teething as a puppy, he would grab one and chew on it for hours. He also likes to eat grapes but they always roll out of his mouth a few times before he can chomp on them.

tASSy 02-14-2007 12:40 PM

lee.loo likes cottage cheese, carrots, peas, apples, and bananas! =) somehow she won't eat lettuce though. hrmph!

never give dogs grapes..something in them is toxic to dogs...I have to fight mine off whenever I eat them

WarChild 02-14-2007 01:11 PM

My dogs eat everything. Lettuce, tomatoes, potato, onions and pugs.

NEVER feed your dogs onions! It can really fuck up their blood cells and potentially kill them if they eat too much!

Don't feed your dogs scraps or human food unless you've seen a list of foods that are TOXIC to Dogs.

aimeesweet 02-14-2007 01:14 PM

My dog loves carrots and celery... I recently tried to give him a banana but he was not into it...

96ukssob 02-14-2007 01:21 PM

my gf wants a pug so bad, so we went to go to a rescue shelter to get one. then our apt complex says "no more pets" wtf? looks like we will have ot move somewhere else

Yes I know, I don't feed my dogs people food at all. I'm talking about scraps that fall off the counter during cooking. A little bit of onion, or even chocolate won't hurt a 140 pound dog. It would take an awful lot.

NetBabe 02-14-2007 01:38 PM

a vet was recently on UK tv and showed how much chocolate it would take to hurt a lab...it was less than one little square of chocolate..why on earth risk it with a food that isn't naturally a part of their diet anyway?

Of course I don't feed my dog chocolate. I'm just going on what my Sister, a Vet in Canada has told me; That is, it would take far more than a little square of chocolate to seriously hurt a large dog. I'll go with my family, since British people are fucked anyway ;)

My dogs actually get fet Eukanuba Fish and Potato, which is a Vet blend of dog food. :)

It completely depends on the kind of chocolate they get into. The worst they can get is dark chocolate and unsweetened baking chocolate. They can eat a shitload of milk chocolate without getting sick. My old mutt Bear *loved* chocolate and I had to make sure to hide all the chocolate in the house. I remember once she got into an easter basket and ate one of those ‘giant’ chocolate rabbits that was about a foot long, she ate the whole thing. No ill effects to speak of other than really raunchy gas.

Oh and my pug really loved to eat carrots and green beans. She'd fucking go crazy for green beans.

sharp 02-14-2007 02:20 PM

I'm pretty sure dogs eat mostly anything....

Tat2Jr 02-14-2007 02:23 PM

Posting a pic of a pug, and another pic of a banana doesn't prove nothing! :) Let's see the video!

My grandpa's cat use to eat potato chips... and tons of 'em. You can't eat just one!

munki 02-14-2007 02:24 PM

My pup is obsessed with anything Italian...

It's because he probably ate milk chocolate. Dogs can eat a shitload of milk chocolate before falling ill. What will kill them faster than the Jews killed Jesus is dark chocolate and baker's chocolate.

WarChild 02-14-2007 02:37 PM

As Notabook said it depends on the chocolate. The chemical in chocoalte that is toxic to dogs is Theobromine. Caffeine is also found in chocoalte but in much smaller amounts.

Theobromine has the following effects: Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant, Cardiovascular stimulant and increased blood pressure.

The toxic dose of Theobromine (and caffeine) for pets is 100-200mg/kg.

Unsweetened (Baker's) chocolate = 390-450 mg Theobromine per oz chocolate. Cocoa powder is a similiar concentrate. Semi-sweet is a bit less than half of the Theobromine content as Baker's chocolate. Milk chocolate = 44-60 mg Theobromine per oz chocolate. White chocolate also has Theobromine but in such small amounts that toxicity is very unlikely.

Knowledge is power!

Never tried bananas with mine. But of course he'd kill for steak and any kind of meat.

And he also likes pizza :)

Here's a fairly complete list of household foods or objects that can be toxic to dogs.

The most dangerous are: Chocolate, Onion (or garlic) and Macadamia nuts.

Other possible threats are:
Pear pips, the kernels of plums, peaches and apricots, apple core pips (contain cyanogenic glycosides resulting in cyanide posioning)
Potato peelings and green looking potatoes
Rhubarb leaves
Mouldy/spoiled foods
Alcohol
Yeast dough
Coffee grounds, beans & tea (caffeine)
Hops (used in home brewing)
Tomato leaves & stems (green parts)
Broccoli (in large amounts)
Raisins and grapes
Cigarettes, tobacco, cigars

I've only owned one dog who was particular about what he ate. He'd only eat meat and cheese. Anything else he'd turn away from.
