Easy Linux Install just for FTP Server - any Ideas?

i want to set up one machine just as an ftp server - using some linux distribution. i don't need all the fancy stuff - just some basic graphic interface to configure the machine and the ftp server. anyone knows something for that?

:thumbsup

Maybe consider PC-BSD. FreeBSD / KDE. Simple install, tons of one click installation applications (PBIs).

I reccomend college linux,it's a piece of cake and it working fine, but developers start developing it.So maybe best will be if take a look at linuxdistros.com

Just take a basic netinstall from debian or freebsd that will get you setup.

If you want to get it going Right Now, download knoppix and throw it on.
You'll have graphical unix within moments.

Slackware is a decent distro for desktop use.
For server use, you can't go past CentOS.

The program you'll want to be using is proftpd.

Why not just use a streamlined version of Fedora or Redhat, as far as ease of installation they are probably the best. I believe Fedora is packed w/ VSFTP these days and that's not a bad little daemon.

Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com) It doesn't get any easier.

Thank you and goodnight.

Ditto on that... I highly recommend vsftpd. Ridiculously simple to configure and extremely fast. On top of that its about the most secure plain ftp server you can find. CentOs is a great choice for the OS. CentOS is just Red Hat Enterprise Linux re-branded

Cent OS with vsftp would work perfectly for what your looking for

MaDalton 02-14-2007 08:28 AM

cool, cool - i already downloaded the centOS server iso - will see how that works out :)
