Lets do a poll: Resolution screen

Im planning to redesign my site, and just asking me... what is the standard resolution right now?

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Looks like its 1024x768 or bigger... lets do some research for GFY users. :winkwink:

Project-Shadow 02-13-2007 09:18 AM

I'm sure most webmasters use 1280x1024 or the widescreen equivelent.

psili 02-13-2007 09:20 AM

Lately, I've been laying out at 900x[whatever]

sosfactory 02-13-2007 09:20 AM

Thanks for your vote, I think so... but lets see :)

More Booze 02-13-2007 09:25 AM

Ops, voted for 1024x768. Cuz I thought you meant the resolution most people use.

I use 1440x900.

hzoltan 02-13-2007 09:27 AM

I don't think most ppl use higher than 1024x768. I mean the surfers.

Man read the poll title: "What is your screen resolution? "

Dont ruin my poll :P

FlowerKid 02-13-2007 09:29 AM

I think most people have 1024x768 in general. Guys who use the PC for their work (webmasters, programmers, writers...) or PC freaks like gamers use a bigger resolution like 1280x1024 or more...

Yes I think so too, but most webdesigners (at least low budget designers) do his portfolios for webmasters from forums like this one... so I think would be really helpful.

I think I will go with 1024 for my next site.

x-zoom 02-13-2007 09:39 AM

1280x1024 over here.

I'm curious though, what resolution would you build your website at if you were targeting a monitor of 1280x1024 or 1440x900 ?

I always used to do it at 800x600, now I think its time to change... so I will use 1024x768.

If you are completelly sure your surfers use that resolution then its ok, but keep in mind it will be a pain for the rest of surfers... I wouldnt use more than 1024x768 so you keep all your audience.

I love 800x600. Anything higher strains the eyes, especially for those who look at a computer screen 10 hours a day.

Klen 02-14-2007 06:39 AM

My res 1280*1024.Cant image anything smaller.

nico-t 02-14-2007 06:57 AM

used to use 1024x768 all the time recently changed to 1152x864 and i like it... any higher and everythings too small for my taste

Dirty Dane 02-14-2007 07:01 AM

For my stationary its 2x1280x1024, and my new laptop is 1920x1200 and with 1080p HD. It looks good with real HD vids :thumbsup

scouser 02-14-2007 10:07 AM

Oh come on, listing only those three and "higher". I'm on something like 2960 x 1050, and i know most people on here tbh are on similar resolutions.

The questions is about to design a site for higher resolution than 800x600, this was the stardard until now... so I think the next step is going to 1024. I never would design higher than this, at least for now.

Yes good point, but you always have to set a minimun, if not things could looks missplaced. I preffer fixed width anyway.

Agree completely. My site is currently set to max out at 800 wide, but my redo will be wider. It just looks odd on bigger screens as it is now.

I think time to go at 1024 :)

EBORG9 02-14-2007 04:35 PM

Check these stats out. Gives you all kind of info on common display resolution, and color depth.
54% of internet users have 1024.

Are you worried about people who don't surf with their browsers fullscreen? Personally, I'll leave a site if it: 1. Pops fullscreen, or 2. Necessitates me having to have my browser opened full screen.

beta-tester 02-15-2007 08:11 AM

I use 1280x1024 on desktop and 1024x768 on my laptop....but when I got new monitor it'll be 1600x1200 :P
