Why are boiler room spammers, who [...]

Why are boiler room spammers, or whatever you call them, smart enough to use techniques like Markov engines to surpass spam filters, but too dumb to make an honest profit on the stockmarket?

Just a random rant.

I mean, spammers must be some of the most tech-savvy of all 'internet marketeers'. Why can't they use their skills in an honest, and more profitable way?

It's not like things can't be automated in the securities scene... It's not like setting up a solid spamming engine doesn't cost any time either.

Deputy Chief Command 02-10-2007 11:08 AM

smack 02-10-2007 01:19 PM

maybe they are planning on buying lots of stocks, but are using spam to raise the capital to do it?

Ive wondered about this. but I think they are paid by bigger brokers to try and create some buzz about the stock, so people who dont know but in, the stock price goes up, the whales sell out and make 10-20% and leave the dummies with nothing... thats my guess

Antonio 02-10-2007 01:36 PM

if you add up the IQs of the people that posted before me in this thread you'll get the number 3.14

Of course, that's the whole idea of boiler rooms.

But indeed, if it's not themselves who have a long position in the stock in question, but they are simply paid by others for a service, it would explain a bit of my question. They're still dumb...

no
(this is not fact)
from my understanding one guy make a shit load of money doing this. then somehow he amassed a following. the followers dont think and are not the inovators.
