Hosting hardware prices. Is this a good deal?

Bandwidth is a separate issue, I'm wondering if this is a good price for hardware.

1 RAID 5 database/content server
3 Dual Xeon Web Servers
1 Gigabit Load Balancer

$1029 per month, plus bandwidth.

hd? scsi ? memory ?
I would say that the cost of the hardware is about 10 000 if 1U formats by Dell or Ibm...

Hit me up I might be able to beat that price.

Raid 5 - but how many gigs usable storage space?
Bandwith - are they goign to jack you on bandwith/rack space/power sockets and other at the last minute shit?

Mr Bond 02-09-2007 03:29 PM

3 Dual Xeon Web Servers... do you actually need 3 webservers....

The Dual Core Xeons are sick

Yep, good deal. make sure they also have back ups for your data off server, raid can break almost as easily as a hard drive can crash.

Lenny2,

Overall the pricing doesn't look but -- it sounds like you are trying to run a high performance site. We at www.realitychecknetwork.com specialize in exactly these types of cluster environments and would be more than happy to work with you in spec'ing out the proper hardware as well as optimizing your systems for high performance Apache/PHP/MySQL.

We have experience with SAN/Cluster and Load Balanced setups so if you contact us I am sure we can lend our expertise and help design a strategy that works best for YOUR business.

Hehe, thanks for the hosting offers guys, but I'm really just looking for a reality check on hardware prices, usually I just negotiate bandwidth and get the servers thrown in, but this is a higher end setup and I want to make sure I'm getting a good price on the hardware.

Mr Bond, no hidden charges, the bandwidth price is absolutely sick..that was negotiated separately.
I'm guessing 1000 gigs of storage on the RAID, all the machines will have at least 2GB RAM.
I'm also pretty sure the drives are SCSI, would make sense since the whole point of this exercise is to be able to handle a pretty heavy load.
