Upsate New York. 8-12 feet of snow from one storm

I used to live near here. This is amazing. They are so nonchalant.

Upstate New York, socked with almost 8 feet of snow this week, may get as much as 4 more feet in the next three days as lake-effect snow continues to bury the region.

The unrelenting snowfall is ``certainly a rare event but it's by no means historic,'' weather service forecaster Jon Hitchcock said in a telephone interview.

State Emergency Management Office spokesman Dennis Michalski said "This is really testing the capacity of local and state government.''

That should have been "upstate" in title

Fuck that !! Way to much snow.

I can well imagine how much snow that is.

But here in Winnipeg we don't get nearly that much... usually. We average maybe 3-6 feet spread out over the entire winter, with the odd really huge storm every 5 years or so.... it's our low temperatures that are the worst.

I can only recall a few instances... the blizzard of '66, one in the mid-70's, and another huge one in '86, where the snowdrifts were massive like that.

8 feet in one storm is crazy. No point in shovelling out your car, no place to drive to.

We would all just disappear. Except for really tall basketball players.

I know a few people up there. Crazy amounts of snow! But like you said they are all taking it in stride. :)

Blame Canada.

It isn't really a snow storm in the traditional sense. There is no need for a storm system, but rather just a major difference between the temp of water compared to the air temp. Add a slight breeze, and the effect is actually quite similar to snow guns on a ski hill.

If the weather stays cold (and it is forecast to do so for a few more days yet) this pattern can continue for a long, long time.

We had sleet today for about 5 minutes - and it made the Atlanta news :)

I'm in Syracuse at the moment and it's just sick how much snow is here.

Crazy stuff indeed, I'm glad it didn't end up here for once.

I got stuck in Buffalo during one of their huge lake effect snow storm things a bunch of years ago and that's the last time I ventured upstate during the winter time, lol.

I lived in Syracuse for 5 years and do not miss it one bit and that's before even thinking of how much I hated all that snow.
