I just saw a head on car crash!!
Holy shit. It was weird to witness it.
I love those cops shows and those scariest car chase videos on TV. So it was exciting and scary at the same time. Mrs. RedShoe and I were going southbound on Highland Blvd, just before the highland exit off the Hollywood Fwy. If you are familiar with that road there is a big soft curve to the right, then it swings left under the off ramp. As were in the soft curve, I noticed the guy behind me kinda swung wide. He was in an older Astro Van. We were the only two cars on Highland. It was hard to tell he was in the northbound lane because we were in a curve. Then this white Isuzu Trooper is going north past me and BAM! Nailed this guy head on at full speed. Both cars doing maybe 45 - 50 miles an hour... give or take a few. But they slammed on their brakes so they must have slowed down a little. I pulled right over. "OH SHIT! THEY JUST HIT HEAD ON" I quietly said to the Mrs. I called 911 ASAP, and I turned around to see if anyone survived. Sure enough this little dude was pulling a girl out of the SUV. He looked pretty shaken up. The Van that was behind me in the wrong lane had no signs of life. Then I noticed a face looking out at me thru the window. This dude was FUCKED up. He was driving an old Astro van. He looked like he hit the steering wheel or some shit. He was a bloody mess. I don't know how, but he stumbled out thru the passengers side somewhere and was resting against the driver side door. He said something to me in spanish I think and I told him to come to the curb. He was FUCKED up. Bloody, stumbling speaking in tongues. He was a big guy, and I didn't want him lunging at me all fucked up like that. So I kept saying. "Come to the curb, Come to the curb", then his legs just gave out. Bam he fell right down in the middle of the road. He was trying to roll around and so I figured he was ok enough to just lay there. Shortly there after the LAFD showed up and helped everyone. They took the van guy and his fucked up passenger away in ambulances. Fucking exciting and scary at the same time. The Adrenalin is still pumping. Luckily I had my Nikon from a shoot I was at earlier. So I got a lot of pics of the crash. I'll post them later. Madness. |
People in California drive insane. I hate driving on the freeways here.
|
freeway? No man.. this was on Highland.. right next to the Freeway. The freeway would have been safer tonight.

Crazy, hope everyone gets over it soon....

Must be the night for badass crashes.
I live on a street with a posted limit of 40, and it has always been very safe, yet since it has a long straightaway which curves slightly approaching my house, we do get kids occasionally racing here. Well, a few hours ago I hear the tale-tell crunch that is the obvious sound of a real crashing vehicle (it sounds different than Hollywood staged crashes), but that is followed by a succession of booms, which at first I thought meant a multi-car collision (although for a moment I did think was muffled gunfire - a sound never heard around here). I go outside and an SUV is upside down on its roof in front of my next door neighbor's house. Apparently it was a one vehicle crash, where the SUV must have rolled more than once. One side of the car was pretty much torn away, glass was everywhere, and I noticed a few tires across the street. A few of my neighbors were already at the SUV checking for survivors. I heard one say that there was nobody in the car, which made me think that they may have been thrown out of the vehicle, so I looked around in the darkness - there was no sound but the passing traffic. A few moments later my neighbor was helping a guy crawl out through the backdoor window space (the glass was already gone). He got out, and my neighbor led him to the curb where he collapsed without saying anything. My neighbor went back to the car which was now leaking fluid everywhere and starting to produce steam/smoke. Still there was no sound. He finally located a guy back near the trunk and dragged him out of the SUV as the first emergency personnel responded. The two vehicle occupants were obviously in shock, as neither said a thing. I started talking to my neighbor, and all he could say was that those dudes were lucky to be alive. He then asked me what make of car the vehicle was. I looked at it, and I couldn't even tell. In fact, it wasn't even obvious it was an SUV until the tow truck crew righted it. I thought about going back to my house and getting my camera, but then decided to not do so, since my cameras would appear to be pro equipment. Quite an adrenelin rush as you said... ADG Webmaster |
crazy... :(
|
Damn ADG. That's madness. The cars in the crash I saw were just fucked up on the front end. But that noise, like you said it sounds like a crunch. It's kind of a low crunch. In the movies it seems higher pitched.
|
damn thats insane
|
that is exciting

It might be how they microphone crashes for movies, as opposed to hearing the sound in realtime with natural ambience mixed in - the sound is more muffled, but nonetheless conveys a very sinister and devasting effect. I'm still amazed that anyone could survive the carnage which I saw. It's a credit to the safety features built into most cars these days. ADG Webmaster |
holly shit.... horrible!

Here are a few pics.
This is the van that was driving the wrong way down Highland. The driver is sitting on the ground to the right. He's sitting right where he fell down. His face was FUCKED up. When the light from my cam came on, he put his arm up like that to hide his face. The second shot is the SUV that was comign up Highland. And the last shot is the driver of the van getting prepped for the ambulance. http://redshoe.net/boards/crash/car-crash-2-9-07-01.jpg http://redshoe.net/boards/crash/car-crash-2-9-07-02.jpg http://redshoe.net/boards/crash/car-crash-2-9-07-03.jpg |
wow thats a fucked up crash :\
|
No airbag in the Astro?? Do you think he is in stable condition?
I always get kinda scared when I drive up a hill or something and there's only a painted line separating the oncoming traffic. If there's two lanes I'll always take the outside lane. If there's one I just drive super slow. I am always paranoid and anxious of someone swerving on the other side and hitting me... |

damn i hope everybody was ok

when he stumbled out and was all bloody... so much shit ran thru my mind. Why the fuck was he driving on the wrong side of the road something is wrong with this guy. Drunk maybe, or fighting with his girl (you can see her head in the passenger side)
and also... I'm a nail biter. So I always have like those little tiny.. I dunno. I just don't want some strangers blood on my hands because I have like tender spots around where my nails are sometimes. So fuck that. I don't touch anyone, regardless of blood. Also, he had that look like he was going to try to lunge at me to hang on so I could drag his ass to the curb. He was bigger than me, and I knew I couldn't carry him. Also... like what if he has a broken neck or some shit and I end up making him paralyzed or some shit. Fuck that.. He was stumbling and breathing. He's good enough in my book. Let the fuckin trained pros deal with that shit. The ambulances showed up about a minute later anyway. The asian girl and her boyfriend walked away. They hit the airbags and were just shaken up. The van guy left on a stretcher in an ambulance. So now... I need to get rid of my truck. FUCK THAT ambulance and stretcher shit. This crash hit way to close to home. |
Damn and they all lived. Ive seen a major car crash to me it was very surreal.
|
wow.. that looks intense. Thank God it wasn't that bad

Yipes. Messy stuff. I hope the victims recover.
|
crazy I exited to highland and got on to Hollywood blvd yesterday.
|
damn.. if either of those 2 cars were japanese cars.. yikes! as nice as they come today, they're made of tinfoil it seems.
|
Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Scary shit!!!!!!!!!! The poor people:(
|
Crazy. Nice pics though...
|
that sucks ..... but at least no one died
|
Thankfully no one died. I was on the expressway a few months ago and my daughter was driving and this car ahead just started darting from one side of the expressway to the other, but sideways...not like he was changing lanes...he ended up crashing into several people, I grabbed the wheel and helped my daughter try to avoid the carnage. We managed to avoid everything. My daughter was so upset she was sick to her stomach, I got out and started assisting people.
End result was the guy was trying to open up his coffee, and spilled some on his lap and hence the problems. Several people were hurt critically, all over coffee |

Fuuuuuck!! That's so fucked up. Coffee is gross anyway. Tastes like dirt. People just get too comfortable when they drive. |
