"The Securing Adolescents from Exploitation-Online Act (PDF) states ISPs that obtain "actual knowledge" of illegal images must make an exhaustive report including the date, time, offending content, any personal information about the user, and his Internet Protocol address. That report is sent to local or federal police by way of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The center received $32.6 million in tax dollars in 2005, according to its financial disclosure documents.

"Afterward, the center is authorized to compile that information into a form that can be sent back to ISPs and used to assemble a database of "unique identification numbers generated from the data contained in the image file." That could be a unique ID created by a hash function, which yields something akin to a digital fingerprint of a file."




while I think its a good idea for the cp shit - it could also be used be abused or used for other things - personally I think its going a bit too far.. :2 cents:

I serioulsy hope this kind of shit isn't written into legislation. The laws just seem to get crazier and stricter. No one wants CP to be out there but monitoring everything is crazy. The Feds would be totally bogged down with going through all the monitoring. John McCain if seriously old and seriously out of his mindThere is no way he will be president.

When I worked for a photo processing lab years ago (BEFORE digital cameras were invented), we were required to report any cp type illegal activity present in the customers pictures to law enforecement. And it did happen, although rarely.

They're talking about SEEING an ILLEGAL image and THEN gathering the data. Makes sense to me.

Any form of data gathering COULD be exploited, but I dont think fear of that should get in the way of common sense.
