Have You Ever Witnessed a Car Accident?

I saw a lady spin out of control today and it freaked me out ... I was only like two or three cars behind her. I have only been in two minor car accidents, mostly due to weather and not me driving.

Anyone else seen a crazy car accident?

kektex 02-08-2007 09:15 AM

I`ve seen a couple but the worst one was once where a car in front of me hit a wet patch in the highway, spun out of control and hit 2 firemen , a towtruck driver and trapped one person against another car that had also hit the same wet spot.
It was fuckin ugly. I got off my car to help but watching a person trapped between two cars and not being able to do anything sucks. Me and a friend just tried to slow down the traffic till the ambulance and more firefighters got to the scene.

In NJ we lived on a very busy street, saw them all the time but the worst was when someone hit a kid on a bike. :( TF looked out the window and saw the kid rolling around in the middle of the street. I called the cop's more at that house then I ever have in my life.

yes, about 4 months ago. heading to vegas on the 15. looked up, thought it was a tornado. slammed on brakes, dust settles, i look to the right a big 18 wheeler, was at a dead stop with me. now all i can think, oh shit now i am gonna get slammed from behind. look up, in the middle of the road, about 15 feet in front of the 18 wheeler and I, a dead body. I look left, in the middle divider I see a minivan that looked like a bomb exploded inside it, from rollover. i get out of my SUV, almost fell over another dead body. fuck. so i go to the van, another dead body. then all of a sudden, i hear a horrific cry. its a girl, i would say about 19 crying, asking why, why God why. she was ejected from the van, not a scratch. i went and talked with the girl a bit. then had to leave as i was already late. but fuck, it was like a bomb exploded. i was numb for the rest of the day. hell maybe two days. i will never, ever forget that moment. and till this day, i will never ever forget the pain i saw that girl go through. to see her, what i assume, her parents, and what looked like one grandparent. dead.

kektex 02-08-2007 09:45 AM

Damn that sucks Big Red.
I was also once in another accident , that I didn`t actually see happen but got there before the police did.One drunk driver was driving on the wrong side of the road on a small Renault. The guy hit another car head on.
The drunk guy and his friend got trapped because their car was so small that the whole front end of the car practically got pushed in to the passenger cabin.
I remember that when we got there they were both alive but by the time the firefighters got there, the drunk guy`s friend was dead.
The thing that I remember the most about that was the cops just passing the dead guy`s cell phone around to see who was gonna call his family. He was also a young guy.

This does not surprise me for Vegas ... I lived there and we loved it. When I had my first child I thought we were gonna get killed just bringing him home from the hospital. One reason we moved back to Arizona was because of the traffic in Vegas. People think I'm crazy when I say that, but until you drive there you won't know what I am talking about.

Besides being the passenger in several accidents where the car was totaled, I've seen a couple of cars flip. One of them was a Corvette flipping end over end a nmber of times.

The craziest was when I saw a pick-up pulling a house trailer in the opposite direction from me on the interstate. I saw the trailer swerving back and forth behind the truck. Just before I drove past them the trailer rolled over and pulled the truck with it. They both rolled over into the oncoming lanes right after I went past them.

Well, here's mine. This happened in Los Angeles last July of 2006.

What's so amazing about this is that the driver was fine... She only had cuts and bruises. From seeing how wrecked the car is, you'd have to think that something woulda' happened to her too. But amazingly, she bled no where.

You would think that driving around everyday, seeing car accidents like this would never happen. But it happens to most random people and it's hard to believe that it can also happen to us.

*** The driver was actually a very close friend of mine and we were on a convoy when this happened.

WiredGuy 02-08-2007 11:12 AM

I've once witnessed a car accident in front of me, and when i pulled over to help the guy, another car behind us had an accident in the exact same place. The entire right lane on a highway was overflowing with excess water from the rain that people were hydroplaning like mad.

Was at a friend house watching TV and we saw an old guy that lived down the street walking towards the door in a hurry. Right before he got there a car drove across the yard and ran him over and never stopped. We ran outside to help but there wasn't much we could do. One of his arms was basically ripped off and hanging by just a few pieces of meat and his skull was cracked open and we could see into his skull. He was still alive and was screaming out for somebody to help him. We tried talking to him but he was obviously in shock and didn't know we were there. We got some blankets to cover him up and called 911. An ambulance was there within minutes and they took him to the hospital where he died later in the day.
We later found out from the police that it was his grand-daughter that ran him over. She was staying with him and they had a fight where she pulled a knife on him and threatened to kill him. He ran out of the house and made it a few houses down the street before he saw his own car go up onto the sidewalk to run him over. The grand-daughter was chased for 2 hours at close to 100MPH before she ran out of gas and was caught.
My grandfather was in the process of planning for a reunion of his Army unit from WWII and he was having trouble finding his Lt. The day after the accident he read the paper and saw the article about the man I had seen run over, it was his Lieutenant. I had seen a man that had fought and survived with him in the Pacific run over by a drunk 20 year old.
The weird thing is that when the man was run over a lot of blood spilled out into the grass. For the next year that spot would grow 3X as fast as the rest of the grass in the yard. Amazing what a good fertilizer blood is.

i've witnessed one or two minor accidents, thankfully nothing that seriously injured or killed anyone.

the last one i saw was probably about three years ago when i still had a day job. i was coming home from work and stopped at a stop light. I noticed a cop sitting in the parking lot catty corner to where i was.

Then out of nowhere, a jeep comes flying past me, goes through the light without even trying to stop, t bones a car hard enough to spin it most of the way around.

It was pretty crazy. The driver of the car that was hit was pretty lucky all things considered that the best witness you could have (a cop) was sitting just about 10 feet away.

Cyndalie 02-08-2007 11:35 AM

I've witnessed a few. The sound is just awful :(

SxDx 02-08-2007 11:47 AM

it's a regular thing to see accidents happen here in south florida. my condo is right on the corner of a busy downtown interesection. i usually see an acciden or two every week from my balcony

iamkathi 02-08-2007 11:57 AM

This past season I was leaving the parking lot after a Falcons game. The traffic was pretty bad so I just hung out with these young guys chatting about how bad the game sucked. One of the cutest guys was in a wheelchair. I commented about his new truck and he showed me all the hand controls. You could tell he was proud. He told me he had been in a chair all his life. He was in front of me leaving the lot and we both at the same time approached an intersection where the cops were directing traffic. I was turning right and he was turning left. The last thing I saw was this truck full of young guys waving at me and then I turned to look at the traffic to see if I could go. I heard an awful sound of brakes and I turned just in time to see the officer wave him to turn and then jump out of the way. The oncoming traffic didn't stop and T-bones this new truck full of young people. That truck flipped twice and ended upside down.
I took a towel from my vehicle to them to help the cops get the glass and gasoline from them. It was going everywhere.

The cops yelled at me and told me to move and get out of the way, so I left when the firetrucks and EMT's arrived. It was awful.

I was alone at a tram stop late at night - not much traffic around - then heard this "whoomp" and saw a car land on its roof and slide for several metres. It had hit the safety zone on the opposite stop, which is a concrete barrier that forms part of a protective zone so that people can safely wait at tram stops in the middle of the road. Unfortunately it's also good for launching and flipping cars!

She was very lucky and just had a nasty concussion. Car was new, and a write off. She must have fallen asleep at the wheel.

(If her car had been a foot or two on the other side then the car would have come directly towards me as it launched...)

cool1 02-08-2007 12:28 PM

Saw a t-bone once last summer.
had a birds eye view from the drivers seat as my SUV broadsided a little shit box.
was kind of cool to watch it happen in slow motions, at least it seemed to happen in slow mo

Nookster 02-08-2007 12:36 PM

I've seen a lot of them.
Probably the craziest I've seen: Me and my friend were standing at the corner of a fairly high-traffic street in my home town waiting to cross when all of the sudden out of no where a 2002 white Ford Taurus screeches, hits the corner of another car then flips to the side in a complete 180 landing on its roof. A few seconds later a guy crawls out the back window which was broken, walks across the street to the corner where we were and just starts chatting with us, not a scratch on him. Turns out my friend who I was with knew the guy. I was pretty freaked out. lol

FelixFlow 02-08-2007 12:36 PM

i was behind a girl one night on the highway, she was swerving & the weather was drizzly....she ended up drifting off the road to the right & went down a ditch - i pulled over & drove her car out for her (she was young, like 17 & had fallen asleep)

another time, i was on interstate 80 and a honda accord had a blowout & crashed into the center divide, flipping on it's side

i pulled over (i was about 1/8 mile behind when it happened) and ran to the car and there was a large woman trying to get out from the drivers window (the drivers window was pointed towards the sky since the car was balanced on the passenger's side)....the car then started to catch fire, there were 3-4 other guys balancing the car & i jumped on top of it and pulled the passenger out of the car

:)

everestcash 02-08-2007 01:10 PM

i've witnessed a lot of accidents but thanks god they were small & nobody got killed

geedub 02-08-2007 01:21 PM

i totaled my car out once hung over passed out and hit a tree.. almost went through the windshield, but just ended up with a cut on my head... super lucky the snow in the ditch slowed me down some otherwise id be toast.. nothing compaired to some of these other tragic stories.

EDepth 02-08-2007 01:29 PM

My worst was a old CJ that had a gas tank explosion on impact, it's swampers immediately caught fire. The driver was lucky, he was ejected, his girlfriend never had a chance. Woke up with her face in my dreams for awhile after that one.

lot 02-08-2007 01:52 PM

Yeah, it was on the cross roads, after a driver tried to avoid the accident, he ran into a column. The speed was too high so one passenger had serious problems.
