In 2006, Yahoo got more traffic than Google.

I'm quite suprised by this article: http://www.ecommercetimes.com/story/...-in-2006.xhtml

RyuLion 02-07-2007 04:26 PM

Nice, its easier for me to get #1's there..:thumbsup

Oracle Porn 02-07-2007 04:26 PM

how accurate do you think that is?

Brad Gosse 02-07-2007 04:27 PM

I am not surprised

yahoo.com has more destination properties and free hosted sites.

FOr pure search I am sure Google won the battle

cheekycherry 02-07-2007 04:28 PM

Good on yapoo!

Yapoo built Google, I hope they tear 'em back down!

Martin3 02-07-2007 04:29 PM

Not really surprising, yahoo has email, maps, chat, personals, and a ton of other shit. And the rank is based on page views.

96ukssob 02-07-2007 04:31 PM

i wouldnt be suprized if it was Yahoo.com vs. Google.com traffic. but Google network vs Yahoo network, i dont think so

Google has all of these too I beleive.

crockett 02-07-2007 05:29 PM

Ya but Yahoo has a lot more main pages and people use it for many other things than just searches.

For example, my home page is http://www.finance.yahoo.com, but I almost never do searches on yahoo unless it's checking out keywords. For searches I use google.

So IMO traffic isn't everything I think "searches" would be the real one to look at.

Yeah but yahoo has had them for years before google did.

Yahoo is still defacto standard in many, many countries. I'd really like to see FireFox put a Yahoo and Live search on their default start page too, would make it more useful and would be just as simple.

I also think Yahoo and MS are catching up in the search area, they are really putting some brains behind it recently.

EscortBiz 02-08-2007 01:36 AM

i think for every say 500 people with a google toolbar there is 1 yahoo toolbar and that one guy dont even use it

i disagree, id think way more computers would have yahoo toolbar, they are more sneaky about tricking people into downloading it while playing games etc

PussyTeenies 02-08-2007 01:51 AM

i use google only for searches :)

lorine 02-08-2007 02:01 AM

That doesn`t come as a surprise for me. Yahoo is a "veteran" on the Internet while Google has been around only for a few years.Maybe, someday,Google will be number one.

96ukssob 02-08-2007 03:06 AM

imo, i value yahoo and msn traffic over google. its nice to show google rankings, but i get much better conversions from yahoo and msn, especailly mainstream lead gen

Does the fact that Yahoo and MSN are easier to SEO (aka buttrape via onpage SEO) have something to do with it? :winkwink: :thumbsup

Bottom Line

http://www.hdcontent.net/gfy/goog.jpg

In Billions of $
Yahoo Market Cap 40.6 Billion
Google Market Cap 143.0 Billion

In Millions of $
Yahoo Net Income 2006 757.0
Google Net Income 2006 3,077.0

And could go on and on... Yahoo is completely lost at the moment and many of their strategies are completeley off on what the customer and market wants (i.e. overture)

How did they manage to lose their huge leadership in the SE in such a short period of time? Arrogance maybe ?

abshard 02-08-2007 06:31 AM

i bet 50% of yahho traffic is mail.yahoo.com

scottybuzz 02-08-2007 08:08 AM

does yahoo own all the other major search eginnes aswell ? like ask and alta vista?

DaddyHalbucks 02-08-2007 08:50 AM

Interesting.

What he said

Evil E 02-08-2007 10:04 AM

Yahoo is a Directory; Google is a search engine.

Not the same thing.

free4porn 02-08-2007 10:11 AM

google wins for number of searches though

Catalyst 02-08-2007 10:34 AM

I remember reading like two weeks ago.. that google has more visitors or something. like that..

Pilforgod 02-08-2007 10:40 AM

Great article in the last WIRED issue about how yahoo failed to capitalize on it's acquisition of Overture, letting Google take the main stage etc. If your interested I suggest you pick it up.

Adultnet 02-08-2007 10:42 AM

yahoo is huge and has more to offer then just search..

TheSenator 02-08-2007 11:18 AM

Can you please not tell people Yahoo is big in traffic.

This is just smoke and mirrors folks. Keep trying to get google traffic.

Yahoo sucks Yahoo sucks

TCAP 02-08-2007 11:33 AM

I definitely think its cause of mail.yahoo.com. If google used their main domain for the mail services instead of gmail.com it'd be a different story.
