From TGP and some program marketing I know. I am just asking if people feel this is a 'bad' word. Like a Carlin 'Seven Dirty Words' type word. Or does it entirely depend on the context.

MARVAS 02-07-2007 01:51 PM

I have no idea what this thread is about. Kill me.

polish_aristocrat 02-07-2007 01:51 PM

In Europe lolita refers often to a sexy young girl (can be 20 years old or so), in US it has CP connotations

Lolita is a fucking female name.

Whatever people associate it with, is their own problem.

Agree PA... on the net is an obvious "bad word" and now firmly in the realms of pedo shit - presumably drawn from Nabokov's book and the movie which was damned funny, but predictably caused some ripples with the righteous :pimp

Fizzgig 02-07-2007 01:57 PM

I'd steer clear of using it.

pinky_julia 02-07-2007 01:59 PM

When i hear the word Lolita, i get the image of a girl under 18, maybe 14-15 y.o. who seems quite attractive for mature men.

Zester 02-07-2007 02:07 PM

i don't see how it's vulgar but I would never use it

everestcash 02-07-2007 02:11 PM

the only word association I have with "lolita" is the name of Nabokov's novel. So I definitely don't think it's offensive or vulgar.

p.s. and why no option "POLL SUCKS?"

BVF 02-07-2007 02:16 PM

all I know is that it was a fantastic movie.

NinjaSteve 02-07-2007 02:24 PM

It might be a name of a person in some countries, but I don't think it's used to reference anything good most of the time, especially dealing with anything xxx related, come on the book was published in the 50s and it was about a girl under the age of consent.

Check out the info at wikipeida

Sarah_Jayne 02-07-2007 02:27 PM

even if you don't know about the book and films it is clear that most people that use that term are trying to suggest very young looking models...even if they are legal it is the 'don't they look almost illegal' thing that I hate.

CDSmith 02-07-2007 03:25 PM

The word (or name) in and of itself isn't offensive per se, but when you're running a TGP that takes submissions and you get a gallery that has a very young-looking teen model's pics and the page is loaded with keywords such as "Lolita", well... it doesn't take a genius to figure out what that particular submitter is going for with regards to who they're pandering to.

In that sense I agree with the term being banned, because in that sense it's not "just a word", it becomes a vehicle to attract would-be molesters of young teens and the pedo crowd to one's site. Not acceptable, at least in my book.

TheLegacy 02-07-2007 04:00 PM

I find it amazing that people can take a word and fuck it up so that even if in some sense it has a negative meaning - we then suggest that any time using that word is bad. The word itself is not bad - it's the personal interpretation of it that is. If you have someone who never even considers CP then they are not even affected by it. The general population doesn't associate it with CP, only the small percentage who search for it.

TSGlider 02-07-2007 04:50 PM

I think of the nabokov novel before anything else so not offensive at all.

B-I-N-G-O and BINGO was his nameo

Sarah_Jayne 02-07-2007 05:05 PM

yes but those searching for CP use it almost as code so when used in porn it is suggesting underage ....it isn't like it is only porn where it is every meant that way. Remember Amy Fisher? What was she called? Yeah, the Long Island Lolita because she was underage - people know the meaning.

in short it is really deeply associated with pedo search words. not good if you want to use it as meta tags

tammix 02-07-2007 06:14 PM

The term is a relic. It was an acceptable term prior to 2000, but is now highly taboo and blacklisted just about everywhere. As it should be, because although it was once just another keyword for teen porn, the Peds pushed it further, and transformed it into a keyword for CP.

StarkReality 02-07-2007 06:51 PM

The problem isn't the word itself, it's the people you attract with it...definately not the type of surfer I'd like to deal with in any way.
