Do you welcome competition or do you fear it?

When you see new people in your space/niche/area, whatever, do you:

1) Hit the panic button and ask for regulation or some sort of legal/extra legal way to block off competition?

OR

2) Do you increase your selection, improve your service, INNOVATE your business model and/or lower your prices?

Be honest.

Exactly. That's the way to do it. It just makes me laugh how other people "solve" their competition problem by forming cartels (online version of OPEC :1orglaugh ), asking for regulations ("the government will protect me from having to provide better products"), price fixing, etc.

If you're first to market, I'd fear it. If you're entering an existing market place, I'd welcome it, innovation is good.

Gotta keep one step ahead. Your main competition should be yourself. You should be constantly asking "how the fuck can I make this better?"

I'm not saying that you don't look at other cars when you're driving, but you can't be too concerned about any other individual. You gotta fend for yourself!

Also, there's no idea that you can own for very long. There will always someone that comes along to copy it. It holds true for ANY product. There are 10 guys that sound like 2Pac, 10 movies that look like Star Wars... there's even mp3 players that look like an ipod, but aren't! Any good idea is going to be cloned, that's corporate thinking, and it's ridiculous to think it's going to go away.

I know it sounds corny, but the best thing you can do is work on your own thing, and give it your 100%.

competition is what I live for so yeah ; its like TimBlaze says : time to step your fuckin game up

Deputy Chief Command 02-07-2007 08:35 AM

oh yes : like a wise man once told me

confuse thy enemy make him believe he knows your weak points

alexanderv 02-07-2007 08:36 AM

I strongly believe that healthy competition is always good. This way you always try to improve your service, find new ways of expanding your business because you see the necessity of doing it. "The necessity sharpens your mind" (Don't remember who said this, sorry)

even if there was a joke involved for one reason or another that does not change the fact that many people in fact DO fear outsourcing

but should not for the stated reasons .. . .
