Snickers ad killed and branded anti-gay, racist etc

After a number of groups objected, Masterfoods USA, the maker of Snickers candy bars, has pulled the plug on a controversial Super Bowl commercial that showed two men accidentally kissing.

The 30-second commercial featured two mechanics who end up sharing both a Snickers bar and an inadvertent kiss, and then react by pulling out a clump of chest hair to "do something manly."

Groups such as the Human Right Campaign and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) condemned the ad, saying it promoted anti-gay prejudice and condoned violence against gay Americans.
Will this madness ever stop?

Political Correctness Kills!!!

georgeyw 02-06-2007 06:25 PM

lmao - how does it condone violence against gays? seriously this is funnier than the ad itself.

wtf, no shit man....

I said it in a previous thread and I will say it here, I think 99% of this PR shit is made up to get more attention to the companies

The response was a bit overkill, dontcha think? Actually, the ad made me laugh not because it was a slam against homosexuals but that it slammed HETEROSEXUAL insecurities, etc.

Fap 02-06-2007 10:35 PM

Same thing I thought when I first saw it. The ad was making fun of homophobia.

So... A pro gay ad should be labeled as anti-straight...

We should also start the White entraintement network.

JD 02-06-2007 11:36 PM

fucking PC bullshit. There's fucking "organization" for everything isn't there?

96ukssob 02-06-2007 11:36 PM

Ok, let me give you my take on all of this.

The two gay rights organizations that protested, the HRC and GLAAD, are both organizations that I donate to financially every year.

HRC works more on the political/legal side to help homosexuals gain legal rights and protections.

GLAAD is basically the PR firm for homosexuals, seeking to have us portrayed in a positive way, and appearing on talkshows and media interviews about homosexual issues.

PERSONALLY I thought the snickers ad was funny. I thought it demonstrated the ridiculousness of homophobia, and made a couple of redneck breeders look like fucktards.

That being said, I understand where GLAAD and HRC are coming from. The truth of the matter is, you do not see gays being portrayed in a positive light on a regular basis in mainstream advertising, so if the only time the public is exposed to images of "homosexuals" or ("homosexual conduct" in this case), is in a semi-derogatory manner, I could see how that might perpetuate an antigay stigma.

But like I said before, PERSONALLY I thought it was funnay.

because its free publicity for their gay rights groups. it's obvious that they were just looking for anything to cry about. :2 cents:

BINGO

I had never heard of either group until all this....they got exactly what they wanted

TG Rebecca 02-07-2007 08:45 AM

damn, all i saw was the end of the commercial where they scream and pull out their chest hair. i thought that part was funny but had no idea what the hell was going on at that point. ;)
