Steve Jobs is the reason you're using an operating system with a graphical user interface right now and not posting this through a DOS prompt. You think someone that brilliant is a tool? I do not.

DRM is a big mess. It does more bad, than it does good.

Trax 02-06-2007 05:53 PM

he is right
they should drop it
its a pain

aico 02-06-2007 05:55 PM

He's not a tool, he's a fucking Machine!!!!

I didn't say he was a dumb-ass ... I just don't think "content" should be free.

Note, I'm a heavy Apple product user and know how "protective" they are of their own "rights"

Did you read what Jobs actually said??

"Though the big four music companies require that all their music sold online be protected with DRMs, these same music companies continue to sell billions of CDs a year which contain completely unprotected music. That?s right! No DRM system was ever developed for the CD, so all the music distributed on CDs can be easily uploaded to the Internet, then (illegally) downloaded and played on any computer or player.

So if the music companies are selling over 90 percent of their music DRM-free, what benefits do they get from selling the remaining small percentage of their music encumbered with a DRM system? "

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughtsonmusic/

Pretty valid point if you ask me.

macmark, Yes I read it, yes I made the mistake I try to avoid .....

The mistake of forming an opinion based on half-ass media reporting, sound-bytes if you will ... The yahoo article leaves out important details contained in the Apple release. Details that make sense.

Thanks for correcting me :thumbsup

Sorry Steve .....

Actually the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center is the reason we all are using graphical user interfaces. That's where Jobs saw and swiped the idea from. Along with networking computers and laser printers. :2 cents:

Um.. bone up on your history there chief.

Xerox was the company who developed the GUI, and the mouse. Not Apple. Xerox gave Apple, and Microsoft their 'crown jewel' back in the day. Apple managed to get it to the market in their computers before MS did in NEC's.

However, Jobs still is a monumental figure in what we have today. No question.

P2P webmasters would be shaking if DRM was done away with..... how are they gonna pop HTML 'confirm' pages on unsuspecting leeches?

Space Monkey 02-06-2007 08:56 PM

DRM is a major fucking annoyance.

Think this is referring to just hard goods says as dvds cds and maybe .mp3 downloads etc. It wouldnt stop anyone from creating drm for their own product.
