The proving part is mainly curiosity (or in my case, my mother's, since she had me take the test when I was in my teens). As to the "elite", 2% isn't particularly elite (or little) when you translate it into world population...

If you were to check out the cross-section of those who belong to Mensa (although most never attend any functions), it's a mix of people of every age, class and occupation. Most of us gravitate towards groups of one kind or another, whether just loose social groups or ones which are more formally organized, so nothing different there either.

My ex-husband was a MENSA member. Didn't have an ounce of common sense. Also scored an almost perfect 1600 on his SATs. Perfect on Math but missed by 10 points on English. Was making 6 figures at year at 23 and bouncing checks while his paychecks were sitting on the counter, lol.

Damn that was tough.:Oh crap
