He's playing a huge mix of other artists songs.

Firehorse 02-04-2007 06:15 PM

I am watching him atm and he is fucking awesome!!!! :thumbsup

He is singing Purple Rain now!

bogo 02-04-2007 06:20 PM

Wow good show, for some reason he reminds me of Hendrix...why did he ever retire ?

Chio 02-04-2007 06:20 PM

One of the greatest guitar players ever. Too bad his sound was off for the last minute or so. Wonder if that was from the rain or if someone's getting fired.

Daruma 02-04-2007 06:21 PM

one of the best half-time shows I've seen yet...

he nailed it - IMHO

sweetcuties 02-04-2007 06:21 PM

He was amazing... he's a living legend :thumbsup

CDSmith 02-04-2007 06:22 PM

Hey Prince, the 80's called,

they want their music back. :D

NoWhErE 02-04-2007 06:25 PM

I loved his rendition of the Foo Fighters... great!

I find it hard to believe he would write a Foo Fighters song.

if the superbowl was played in like '88 it would have been a good halftime show

Let's not get carried away here. Prince is nowhere near in the same universe as Hendrix.

Popular yes, Talented, well I can admit that too, in a pop-rock idol kind of way. But mentioning him in same sentence as classic hard-rock guitarist legend like Hendrix is, well, sacrilege.

Um. No. I'm sorry. You're wrong.

Again, I don't care for Prince at all, but I have to respect his artistic and music ability. The guy is simply amazing. He has mastered over 10 instruments, teaching himself. He doesn't just play them, he's mastered them.

Comparing Prince to Jimi is pointless and so is putting one down over the other. They lived in different times, did different things, and both had quite an impact on music.

ayne468 02-04-2007 07:13 PM

He is definately legend...a strange one...but...definately a legend:)

Well said Sly, the man is a genius

Firehorse 02-04-2007 07:19 PM

I admire Hendrix and Prince for different reasons ... they both redefined muisic and pioneered a new sound! :thumbsup

I regard them as both having too much talent for one artist!

Comparisons never do justice to either artist ... but some good points raised here and each to their own! :thumbsup

Play it loud and enjoy! :GFYBand

As I said, I give him his due. Genius?... maybe. Talented?... I already acknowleged that. Okay, "extremely" talented. Better?

But no, sorry, I am not wrong. In my view, according to my tastes as a lover of classic rock, I would rank Hendrix far FAR above anything "Prince", period. Prince did his big ol' Purple rain thing in the 80's, had some pop hits back then, pretty much end of story from where I sit. I haven't heard anything "huge" out of the guy since. He may have new stuff out there, I don't know, but if he does it certainly isn't getting any airplay on the kinds of rock stations I listen to.

But you're right... it is pointless to compare him to Hendrix, which is kind of what I was trying to say to the other guy who did that in the first place. :D

TheAmericanCannibal 02-04-2007 07:27 PM

Prince has so many top ten and number 1 songs- compared to Hendrix only having two or three.

Both are legends- Prince is a fabulous artist and bear in mind he has written many hit songs for other artists as well,
such as The Bangles, The Time, Vanity, Sheila E, Sinead O Connor and many others...

Prince is a Hall of Famer who will go down in history as a legend up there with the likes of Hendrix, James Brown, and George Clinton.

Yes, Prince did in fact write songs for Creedance Clearwater Revival and Jimi Hendrix.

:winkwink:

It seems like you answered your own ques... you listen to classic rock and chances are you won't hear anything Prince related because of the station you listen to (classic rock)

Here's a few Prince links
1. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...ndID=801 8440

2. http://music.yahoo.com/ar-261901---Prince
3. http://music.yahoo.com/ar-261901-discography--Prince (album list)

I saw Prince in concert and it's one of the best show's I've been to. I also went to the after party and was just 4 or 5ft away from him, he's short but very, very talented which was stated by a few :2 cents:

I really respect that guy as musicion and love his songs, too many good ones!

tony286 02-04-2007 08:08 PM

Prince is very under rated guitar player, amazing songwriter.Probably the closest to Mozart in our time. Now Im going to get slammed Hendrix was a great songwriter but for the guitar stuff Beck actually did it first but wasnt a front man or the song writer hendrix was.

I didn't watch the show. What songs did Prince play? If it was "Darling Nikki", that's a Prince song that the Foo Fighters covered.
