Domain Moguls!! Lets talk type-in Value!

I've got some good domain names that get absolutely NO Type-ins!

I say the domains are good because of ease to remember etc...

So type-ins, even a small amount, has to be worth something.
But how much?

Let's break it down by dollars:

I say at least the following must be true:

Domain worth = Reg fee plus

Type-ins | Add $'s

05 / day | $50
10 / day | $110
15 / day | $175
20 / day | $225
... Adjust upward for popularity value after 40 hits/day
50 / day | $1600
100/ day | $4000
200/ day | $10,000
500/ day | $50,000

I base this on $0.03 a type-in plus adjusting up for high type-in because real interest in the terms means real sells. In other words 5 type-in a day may be 5 domain speculators searching for domains, but 50 type-ins is going to have real surfers looking for goods/services...etc...

I think my figures can be way higher for the low type-ins from 5-20 but I'm just saying this is a "low bid" chart.

Now if I adjust for a "5 year life" the value becomes :

Type-ins | Add $'s

05 / day | $250
10 / day | $600
15 / day | $1000
20 / day | $1800
... Adjust upward for popularity value after 40 hits/day
50 / day | $8,000
100/ day | $20,000
200/ day | $50,000
500/ day | $250,000

hmmmmmm....thoughts??

Well, ok...

You didn't put Drama, Pics, UFC, Superbowl, or a CNN headline in the title, so you won't get any response :(

Intresting thoughts and I'd like to hear some input from people who deal with domains on a regular basis.

IMO you're escalating the prices a bit quickly as the type-ins/day go up, but I'm no expert on domains.

Hard to say. It looks ok but some other important factors.. is it a .com? what industry does it cover? some are easy to monetize with high per-click rates, others are lucky to get 3cents per click average.

it only counts if you actually get click throughs, i have seen some domains that get typins but shitty ctr

This is true, people are going to want to know where ther traffic is coming from and if it is producing (much like adult traffic).

If you're looking at an old warez domain name, you're not going to get a lot of good click throughs because warez people believe in a free software world.

I think your prices are way high, too

Oh, believe me, I am not any expert either!

The reasoning behind the quick bump in price is that I think people will just type in names for the fun of it and that will get some domains up to 5, 10 hits a day. But when you start getting 40-50 type-ins a day then people are really looking for something, and that "something" is where you try to cash in on.

I'm not using established websites in this example. It's like you buy a domain and park it and get 50 hits a day, that's got to mean the keywords in the domain and of reasonably high interest to surfers.

I figure a domain with 20-50 type-ins a day can be exploited with the right content. If I put something on the domain that makes 50% of the type-ins bookmark the page and return then that domain should be up to 1800-4000 hits a day in 6 months!

If I'm getting these hits for anything else than free porn(:1orglaugh) then there's got to be some money there.

Maybe you would have a different view if you don't think about the "porn method" of making money.

Porn wants a page with hits that click the banner and go to another website!

A apartment rental site wants hits that stay on the site and return until they find a rental. 1000 hits a day looking for rentals on a site is a lot more money than any porn site.

So as far as porn goes, my price estimates are way high; but I interested in making a move from porn. There are just more profitable things out there IMO.

If this is acurate ill be making some money soon..

OK! CHECK THIS!

I have a domain that gets only 20-25 type-in a day!

In December I linked the page to a sponsor that I only used on that page.
So all signups came from that page.
The sponsor is 100% relevent to the keywords in the domain.

RESULTS

From Dec 1 to Feb 4(today)
3 joins = $45 ; 2 rebills = $30 (50/50 recurring)

Total = $75

So if we count this as 2 months then the year total could be:
6 x $75 = $450

That's exactly twice as much as my quote on the price $225 for 20 type-ins.

However, I need to lower the "5 year life" price to $1100.

Hint: generic keyword domains for a "5 yr life", The latest reality TV show domain with 20 hits is only for "1yr life".

I'd like to see other examples that anyone has.

I'm starting to think that I would be a fool to sell a generic domain with 20 type-ins a day.

i got a domain machomedia.com which is getting about 80 hits per day and I have no idea why, unless maybe it's macromedia typos...

pradaboy 02-04-2007 04:18 PM

You can't put a standard price on type-ins. For example people looking for free stuff are worth 100x less than people looking for a loan/mortgage. Best way to value a domainname is by the revenue it produces.
