Disable javascript when surfing GFY and see the difference

I'm prolly the last one to notice this, but hey, better late than never.

I had disabled javascript for a programming project and forgot to re-enable it. Surfing GFY all day is fantastic!

Reenabled it and checked for GFY javascript errors with Firefox and my god - there are hundreds, and 2 serious errors belonging to ads.gofuckyourself.com. Surfing was slow again. Disabled jscript and wooosh, every loads in a an instant.

So from now on, GFY is javascript free for me - no more smilies or quick reply, but hell, that's a small price to pay.

Yeah, I had blocked all ads from ads.gofuckyourself in firefox, but the javascript was winning - some ads displayed, some never. How did you block specifically ad javascript?

borked 02-03-2007 04:14 PM

Just to add, I had imagages blocked from ads.gofuckyourself.com, but the javascript (below) was still loading some. Now with javascript off, I never see any ads and everything is snappy as hell

Code:

<script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript' src='http://ads.gofuckyourself.com/phpadsnew/adx.js'></script>
<script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'>
<!--
  if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ',';
  phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11);

  document.write ("<" + "script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript' src='");
  document.write ("http://ads.gofuckyourself.com/phpadsnew/adjs.php?n=" + phpAds_random);
  document.write ("&amp;what=zone:1&amp;target=_blank");
  document.write ("&amp;exclude=" + document.phpAds_used);
  if (document.referrer)
      document.write ("&amp;referer=" + escape(document.referrer));
  document.write ("'><" + "/script>");
//-->
</script><noscript><a href='http://ads.gofuckyourself.com/phpadsnew/adclick.php?n=a4c4fc69' target='_blank'><img src='http://ads.gofuckyourself.com/phpadsnew/adview.php?what=zone:1&amp;n=a4c4fc69' border='0' alt=''></a></noscript>

a great hint with great value, thanks

CyberHustler 02-03-2007 04:20 PM

I wonder if it will cost so much to put ads here if everyone blocks them....

DeanCapture 02-03-2007 04:24 PM

Wow - amazing. Thanks for the tip!

borked 02-03-2007 04:33 PM

quick reply (at least the quick reply still works w/o javscript ;) )

DeanCapture 02-03-2007 05:52 PM

Is there a way to turn off javascript on certain sites and leave it on for others? I use Firefox -

No Prob. If a site is acting funky, just check the addon and change it accordingly.

StuartD 02-03-2007 08:00 PM

Hm... I've had noscript installed for a long time and had just never allowed scripts on this or any other board.
Combine that with the fact that my computer doesn't slow down on javascript load unless it's pretty damn major code.... I hadn't noticed in quite some time.

But yeah, if your computer isn't the fastest, then erroneous javascript can hamper your surfing quite a bit.
