CAn someone tell me the purpose of the report spam button in gmail.
 

I figured if you reported an email as spam it would keep emails from that address from coming in but apparently it serves no purpose at all from what I can tell.

They're creating a list of people who have a hissy fit about spam, so that when they come out with their anti-spam software, they have a mailing list of potential customers. I thought everyone knew that.

takes a few times to do it and eventually it will.

not just the address, but the content in the email as well. google looks for things like wording and tags that they associate and over time, will dump it to spam
