Anyone Else Notice The New VISA Ad On Yahoo's Main Page (PIC)

Just noticed the new VISA ad on Yahoo's main page this morning. Thoughts?

Unfortunately the merchant has absolutely no recourse without a signed receipt or card imprint, period! I've fought so many chargebacks where I've provided undisputable evidence that the transaction was initiated by the cardholder (or at least someone in their household) and they are initially reversed in our favor however when they go back to the cardholder and they continue to insist they did not initiate the transaction the chargeback is reinstated against our account. Bottom line, in a "card not present" transaction the bank will side with the cardholder every time regardless of what documentation the merchant provides to substantiate the transaction!

I know it sucks for merchants, but for someone who has unauthorized charges on their credit card it sucks just as badly... They should really figure out a way to eliminate chargebacks, but at the same time somehow protecting the customers from fraud...

bonkerz2007 02-02-2007 06:59 PM

madawgz 02-02-2007 08:30 PM

Elli 02-02-2007 10:18 PM

Hmm..

I've had 5 chargebacks to my own personal site since September, and all 5 were from cheques, not cards.

Its all about consumer security, so many people have had fraud happen to them when it comes to online chages (its happened to myself twice) that they want the comfort in knowing they can dispute them with ease. I don't really think it should be the focus of the ads though.

tony.. remember, if it really bothers you.. just defend the chargeback with no more than a reasonable amount of energy.

then when you lose, sue the customer.

word will spread if everyone starts doing this. you can sue someone in small claims very inexpensively. and you can sue them in YOUR county.

since they won't ever show up, you'll get a default judgment.

even if you don't bother collecting it, you'll have ruined their credit.

pornguy 02-02-2007 11:10 PM

Got to love visa and thier rules.

studiocritic 02-02-2007 11:10 PM

oh, also. be sure to send the copy of the judgment to your processor, so they remove the chargeback from your file.

my main bank in australia is very good with chargebacks both as a consumer and merchant (i have both) - as a customer, if u say something is "fraud" and you didn't do it... they reissue your credit cards with new numbers - so it's a bit of an inconvinience.. but a godsend if the charge/s really are fraudulent.

As a merchant, even without a signature, if you use my banks gateway, they will assume responsibility for the chargeback because their fraud filters "werent doing their job".

as for that ad on yahoo... horrible!!!
