Anybody Here Know Thailand?
 

A friend of mine wants me to visit and pretty much stay there as much as immigration laws will allow. I'd want to consider shooting chicks there. Certainly the occasional Thai girl, but he claims the place is crawling with cute backpacker chicks from all over Europe and the Americas who could probably use a quick infusion of cash. Anyone know Thailand well enough to tell me how to find them? (And, please, don't tell me anything about underage girls or boys...I'm not interested.)

There is a GFY member called tgirl - I have talked to him before about Thailand. You might want to contact him if no one else responds with real information. You can search this forum for his posts too, some of them relate to Thai content stuff, I think.

DO NOT forget to smoke opium (after trecking all day). That happens in the North of the country, close to cities Chang Mai and Chang Rai. U will never forget the experience.

Find the backpakers in Kosa Mui (have no idea how to spell that) but you will find it easily, it's on that island and the neighboring ones that there are all those rave parties and stuff. Thats in the south of the country.

Bankok sucks. The underage stuff will make you sick there.

Just shoot the thai chicks, hang outside the nike factory and offer them 50cents an hour which is about 5 times what they make at the factory.

If your going to Bangkok... then you should visit Khao San Road, thats a meetingpoint for the backpackers.

If you want to shoot thai girls you should probably head down to Silom Road and the "sois" there. Patpong for example. But there are many other places...

Remember that all form of pornography is illegal there. Not sure how well they enforce the law on it since I had adult movies at pay per view on the TV at one of the better hotels there at my last trip.

I spent a month earlier this year throughout Thailand. If you want to shoot tourists, I would say Bangkok, Pattaya and the south islands/beaches would be your best bet. In Bangkok specifically, I would go to where the backpacker young crowd hangs out (Khao San Road) and maybe around Sukhumvit Road. There are zillions of single women from all over passing through these areas. The south (Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi...) is great and a major destination for women looking for a beach or party vacation. I suspect the laws are real restrictive about this but if you keep things low key, lots of officially illegal things go on there. Best of luck.

Most of the young hooker girls have a local pimp guy behind them - so if it's really illegal to do porn you might open yourself to some very nasty blackmailing (which might very well involve the local police) - boundries are very blurred in Thailand.

I touted once (and once only) for a beach losman and as a result had half the island boys after me - needed the protection of kick-boxing gang of four to get me of the island unhurt...

I know an american who had a beach restaurant with his thai wife. At some stage a local developer wanted their spot, but since their land title and operation were legal because his wife was thai they simply abducted their 2 kids, and to make their intentions clear first send a finger and later killed their son. The couple finally sold for a song just to get their daughter back...

It's a fucking violent place behind all the friendly smiles! Even with drugs you'll have to be cautious.

My friend, who more or less lives there, is telling me that Ko Samui (where he lives), is "crawling with backpacker chicks from all over the world," who frequently are low on cash. THAT is what I'd be looking for, not underage male or female hookers. My ex-wife spent some time there and told me that the local males resent foreigners socializing "with intentions" with the Thai women. I'm not saying I'd never shoot a Thai woman, but that would not be my reason for going there. It just seems like a great place to do photography, with fantastic outdoor settings and more days you can work outdoors than we have here in northwestern Oregon.

At first YOU sounded stupid, but then it appears you finally figured it out. THAT, plus it sounds like a great place to be, inexpensive, and fun.

If you knew me at all, you'd know that a cruise like that would be just about the last place you'd find me.

On the western side of Thialand is a place called Phuket, south of Bangkok on the Indian Ocean. It's a touristy spot, gets the larger cruise ships stopping there regularly etc. The thing about this place is the beaches, and the amazing sunsets, perfect for evening photosets. That would be a photographer's dream, to have a small troup of girls willing to work cheap, all posing on a Thai beach at sunset.

GeorgeTH has given you a good picture of what the Thai system can bring your way if you dont get streetwise.

Theres a golden rule to follow in Thai - share a little of your profits.

Why do you think everyone who goes there only shoots the nightclub girls? The ordinary girls will not be seen talking to you because they are frightened that everyone will assume they are a prostitute.

Expect a totally different culture, if you stray away from the tourist resorts you are in a different world. Treat Thais with respect and they will treat you with respect back. Act like an American who owns the world, cos he has $10 in his pocket, expect a quick lesson in Thai boxing.

Have not been there for a few years but I doubt if it's changed.
