Does Google use Whois?
Hi, I've heard this rumor a thousand times, that Google checks Whois information to detect webrings or spammers, and even ban websites based on that information...
Is that real or just a myth? Also I've heard Google is a registrar, so do they use their own info for the same purposes? Thanks |
They could, but i think they won't admit nor deny.
So it will likely always be a point of doubt. |
google whois
If google is the registrar of your domain they can use the whois to do anything they want.
Godaddy used to put "PUT THIS DOMAIN ON BACKORDER" in your whois. One great reason I stopped using godaddy awhile ago. I don't think they do it anymore but who knows. |
Don't spam and you will have nothing to worry about.
|
I read recently (last 3 weeks or so) that they struck a deal with Go Daddy to share private registration data. I can't remember where I read it though...might have even been here.
:2 cents: |
i sure hope not!
|
wow, Google really is that powerful they can do everything!
|
yeh Google does want it wants!
|
Seo people say that google and the rest check your domain. For how maney years that you have owned it, and how many years in the future its registrated. They think that if you are an spammer you vil not buy an domain for 10 years.
I have read some places that people have huge trouble getting picked up in google. If they buy an Ex spam domain. But then again it all just might be an trick form the hosts to get you to buy your domains for 10 years :-) |
They seems to be using atleast part of the info from whois like age of the domain so yes
they do access whois of your site |
They have the ability to. I am not sure if they do. I think they may use it when they manually check sites. Maybe anyway
