Apparently Shepard Smith was just on TV trying to explain ATHF to FOX News viewers and reading the whole backstory of the Mooninites from Adult Swim's website ... Anybody got a clip yet?

DUDE

I watched the video on Fox News, they were openly calling these things "bombs"

Huggles 01-31-2007 06:07 PM

"Hoaxes are a tremendous burden on local law enforcement and counter-terrorism resources and there's absolutely no place for them in a post-9/11 world," Knocke said.

RawAlex 01-31-2007 06:12 PM

Considering the state of the world today, fake bombs for fun is about as amausing as yelling "fire" in a crowded room with locked doors.

These people should be made to spend a while with Bubba at a federal butt slamming prison.

Yep, but whoever had the idea for this campaign must already be braindead...

You have to be kidding me, right?

USA = Police state

notabook 01-31-2007 06:35 PM

Mieth described the object at the T station as "a sophisticated electronic device."

Yeah, they look real sophisticated... ROFL. Man these fucking idiots never cease to amaze me.

Braindead?

IT'S ON EVERY FUCKING CHANNEL.

I think it worked. Too bad it makes Americans look like fucking idiots.

Fap 01-31-2007 06:44 PM

I saw the title and i was like ATHF what?

fusionx 01-31-2007 06:50 PM

This is rediculous. How come the other 9 cities didn't overreact to these marketing devices?

Only the idiots in Boston thought these funny little lights were some kind of bombs.

Oh shit! It it it has lights and stuff.. and it's - it's - it's fingering me! It's giving me the finger! Obviously it's a BOMB!

How stupid can the "authorities" in Boston actually be?

dennisthemenace 01-31-2007 07:00 PM

Well.. it was a promotion and all.. probably a little more effective than they imagined :)

MBTA Lt. Sal Venturelli said police were told about the first package by a transit passenger who spotted it on a column that supports I-93. The parcel was located on an elevated structure above the bus way and below I-93 in the Charlestown section of Boston at about 8 a.m.

"This is a perfect example of our passengers taking part in Homeland Security," Venturelli said.

Thank fucking god I live in Canada.

If I started seeing strange electronic devices strung up on telephone poles that light up at night looking like strange toys, well, I'd start wondering too!

Again, read what I said: Considering the current state of things, anything wired up and installed against underpasses or similar structures without a permit is SUSPECT. Just because a bomb has a happy face on the front of it (or someone giving you the finger) wouldn't make it any less dangerous.

Note to terrorists: Put smilie faces on all bombs, and everyone will ignore them.

This is a great promotion, it is certainly getting the message out, and I hope the idiots that did it enjoy their time with Bubba.

I don't think anyone has a problem with them checking out the item. Any suspicious item like this put up in a public place should garner some attention. However, it should have taken no more than a quick glance at it to discover what it was. It was not a ?complex piece of electronics?. It was a fucking LED sign hooked up to a battery pack. There was no need for this to get mass-media attention, none whatsoever. It just goes to show how stupid and paranoid people can be? it doesn?t help that the media can?t wait to jump the gun on every little thing that they can spin towards ?terrorism?.

As for them ?enjoying time with Bubba? I seriously doubt anyone involved will see a day of prison. This was a planned marketing campaign and it had no intentions of being a ?bomb hoax?. Granted, if this wasn?t a business stunt and these were actual individuals behind it they would likely be in prison right now. Businesses can do just about whatever they want :)
