Amex Platnuim Charge Card... is it worth it?
 

So I get a call yesterday from amex about unusually high spending in Mexico on my Gold card, turns out some guy tried to buy something at some mexican jewler worth $9000, the stupid shop actually punched the card in rather then swipe.
Anyways, I said it sure wasnt mine, they declined the charge or whatever but said it wouldnt be on my bill and to just make sure when I get my bill that everything is mine.
Seeing as they needed to kill the card anyways I took that time to turn my gold credit card into their line of credit (which gives a better rate then my damn bank) and apply for a Charge Card, because of my previous spending habbits the lady recomended the plat card. The concierge service had me sold, and then she said about the complimentry ticket when flying overseas. So I sucked up the 400 a year fee and said do it up.

Anyone else have the plat card? I hope its actually worth it. Never had a charge card either, but it seems better then a credit card.

Most of our team has Moved to the AMEX Pltinum "Starwood Card"

Same benfits as the regular Plat, but the Miles are much easier to transfer around and you get somthing like 30% off all Starwood hotels. We spend in the mid xxx,xxx on the card every month for work , so we do a TON of reasearch on what cards offer the best ease and rewards......hope that helps.

Thanks, I didnt know I could get points other then the aeroplan points. I'll have to look into that part, hotels would probably be better for me too.
And I think you spend more in a month then I do in a year on mine :O

Good decision in my opinion Amex is top notch !

Its a great card, Whatever you spend....if you go to Internext FLA, you'll save more on the Hotel than all the anual Fees....by Far.

I called them and got them to change it, apparently I can change it whenever I want.

Bothering? lol I am kinda excited to try out the concierge, not sure what all they can do for me even.

the concierge is basically your bitch , lets say you need like a case of champagne asap and your in like another state and such the bitch will get it for ya

also you get automatic upgrade on starwoods , and also a heap of other crap also , the book they send with it is a good read

charge card = pay balance each month

that'd be the centurion, right?! so the platinum card has concierge service as well?

yup I have both the plat and the amex black titanium aka centurion

the big difference is ego related other then that its almost the same, I mean you go into a store or anywhere with black (given they know what the heck it is) you get the royal treatment and def will get some gold digging sales girls being very nice to ya

I read thru the plat book and im like damn every service pretty much offered to black is offered to plat, like going into a saks 5th ave store and having a personal shopper waiting for ya helping you and offering you cookies and some drinks (heck id set it up just to get the cookies and drink and get the heck outta there lol)

but both awesome cards and they def are on your side everytime you got a prob

thats why many stores dont like to accept amex because amex dont dick around

It's worth the price it if you are able to pay some of your monthly expenses with it (hosting, rentals, business supplies, etc) and of course pay off the balance every month. There are some cool perks, but most are useless or there's a ton of fine print to go through to see if whatever you're doing qualifies. Figure 100k rewards points (approximately $100k in purchases) about a $500 cash bonus from them.

If you're not spending a good chunk of change with them then it's mainly for status.

beaware thou no limit cards hurt your credit score

yep Escort, somewhat they do - as they report high balance but no limit.. not the best for ficos but if your already in the low to mid 700's or higher and your util. on other limit cards are somewhat low of pif you should be ok.

We have the black for biz and 3 other amex's.. Bennies are ok but they really have gone down hill in the last 1-2 yrs or so.

I have the one you're asking about... It's $400 a year but absolutely worth every penny! You get 1.5 points for every dollar spent and it really adds up quick!

Plus you get into the air canada lounges for free to drink all their booze and eat their snacks. Also it gives you an absolutely ridiculous amount of insurance on flights, bags, rental car stuff.

I pay for everything I can with my amex!

I think I will be putting all my bills through it and then just paying off the card.
