Charge backs with eppassporte? OMFG

I have always defended eppassporte when people bashed them. What made them great was the fact that buyers could not charge back. And lets face it webmasters are not the most honest bunch of people. So a couple days ago a guy icqed me said he sent me $600 by accident, that if I sent him $550 he would be happy. So I sent him his entire $600 back. So today my eppassporte account gets debited a $600 chargeback. Thanks for contacting me before you took the money out eppassporte. So now I'm out not just $600, but $1200. Yeah I know contact them and they will fix it. Well a few months back my account had over $1000 in quote "errors" and they never got back to me. When I call them all I get is a busy signal. Eppassporte I love you but this chargeback policy is bullshit. Things are just not the same without Rand and Esther there. I have been one of your biggest supporters since you guys came on the scene. To be treated like this is insulting at best. Sigh

Twisted Dave 01-30-2007 07:51 PM

Wow ... that sucks. I don't do the same kind of business but I assume I'm at risk too ... I hope things get sorted and this problem is fixed ... Some kind of system of warning or discussion should surely be in place?

Whoa, that's some fuzzy math right there.

The transactions in your epass account look like this:

+$600 (Transfered in from scammer)
-$600 (Transfered out to scammer)
-$600 (Charge back)

Add them together for your actual loss. :winkwink:

madawgz 01-30-2007 08:01 PM

i hope you get that money back...

first time ive heard about chargebacks

it doesn't matter if your math was correct or not, what matters is you were charged back and lost your own $$$

He's adding in the fact that he had $600 profit when the money was sent.
So he not only lost his profit but the charge back also.

That would be the way to report it on your taxes. :winkwink:

DWB 01-31-2007 01:16 AM

Well then chargeback the $600 you sent to the guy.

Valoon 01-31-2007 01:26 AM

similar case

I had similar case with EP.there were no problem.I asked that guy to request EP for a refund. That's all.
The matter is you mixed up EP's succession. They handle with such cases easily.
pure misunderstanding...

DH

his epass user name is gntmidnight, http://www.xpornfree.com/ is his site which is a se now, I'm sure he has quit the biz. I got the email from eppassporte yesterday at 1:58 pm saying they will be reversing the charge within 48 hours. After looking in my admin just now I see they cleared his chargeback. So by the time they discover this fraud I am sure he will have withdrawn the money from his account and I will be told it's too late, he already took the $600 out. If your gonna let people do chargebacks, at least give the person being charged back a opportuinty to dispute it. I sent a email right away to eppassporte. This is just plain bad business all the way around.

A dispute period would be fair on Epassporte's part.

avalanche 01-31-2007 05:09 PM

Sorry to hear about that.....sucks.....just sent you a msg on an issue that might actually be related.

split_joel 01-31-2007 05:10 PM

Epass did the chargeback without even contacting you first? That's unbelievable :Oh crap

No it's not. It's completely believable, unfortunately.

The company is run by a bunch of poorly programmed robots. And one superstar rep (Michael, of course.)

Attention Epassporte lawyers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satire

rowan 01-31-2007 11:00 PM

It's the old overpayment scam...

You invoice someone for $500 and they "accidentally" send you $2k. They ask you to return the difference. Shortly afterwards the original payment bounces, and you're $1500 out of pocket.

Epass should set up a refund feature so that if this happens again you can simply refund the transaction (as opposed to you SENDING them funds) and get them to send the correct amount.

rowan 01-31-2007 11:04 PM

Perhaps epass could also implement a short cooling off period where you have the option to outright reject a payment - thus removing all liability - if you believe it's going to be fraudulent.

$5 submissions 02-01-2007 01:43 AM

Damn...... I didn't know epass allowed chargebacks.... Thanks for the headsup.

I don't think it's a "sender initiated" chargeback like with a credit card, it is more like epass recovering funds from a CC load transaction that has been reversed due to fraud. Paypal does the same thing.

It pays to remember that when you receive funds from another member they are NOT necessarily fully cleared, even though the CC transaction succeeded...

Umm, I said I tried to call them but got a busy signal. I also replied to the email they sent me about the chargeback but never got a response. Michael took care of it anyway.

Michael is the only person at epass who has EVER solved the numerous problems I have had. I don't know what they (and especially we) would do without him!
