U.S. Gov't "Filters" Global Warming information
Link to Article
...At the House hearing, two private advocacy groups produced a survey of 279 government climate scientists showing that many of them say they have been subjected to political pressure aimed at downplaying the climate threat. Their complaints ranged from a challenge to using the phrase "global warming" to raising uncertainty on issues on which most scientists basically agree, to keeping scientists from talking to the media... ...Prior to the change, interview requests of climate scientists frequently were "routed through the White House" and then turned away or delayed, said Shindell. He described how a news release on his study forecasting a significant warming in Antarctica was "repeatedly delayed, altered and watered down" at the insistence of the White House... |

That same "policy" has been spread by the admin spokesman - that alleged news channel, Fox (where each "newscaster" is a "personality" and an unqualified opinion on every subject under the sun) - the bullshit they spew on "global warming" is laughable, but chances are many actually believe it - as you can see from this thread. The reasons are obvious - possible threats to the economy etc if any attempts to cut down emissions were enforced. But.. the cost will be enforced in the end out of necessity and little surprise there is more attention - the sooner that starts and is sustained, the cost will probably be less in the end. |

PS You had two motivating keywords/phrases in the thread title to attract skeeters - "global warming" and "US govt" - either one would do, but both are irresistable to em *LOL* |

Global Warming? I seem to recall these same people said the ice age was coming about 15 years ago. First it was a global ice age - cause the CO2 was blocking out the sun and cooling the earth - but when that fell apart.. mysteriously Global Warming popped up... hmmm
It's obviouos that the earth is warming! YEAH! a revelation! But, it seems to do that on its own at regular intervals. And - while the current average temperature is HIGHER than the overall average, its still lower than its peak. And yes while parts of the polar caps are shrinking (something one would think normal in between ice ages as we are near the middle) other parts of those same caps are increasing. As for the FED not wanting infomation about Global warming/cooling being fed to the populous.. well what would you expect? They don't want you to know either way. THEY ALL LOOSE either way... A) big business (as you say) looses cause of tightened restrictions - profits decrease with expenses.. ok i get that. B) what about the special interest groups and thousands of environental study groups raking in billions of dollars a year? what happens to that lobby (every bit as powerful as big business by the way) if a so called solution is reached on global warming? As for CO2 emmissions.. one thing is certain. They are increasing. But, overall the CO2 levels on earth have been decreasing for quitre some time. Thus - the cooling periods the earth has passed threw. Anyone know the COs levels during the dinosaur period? But, is CO2 a bad thing? From everything I've read, seen, heard during the time of the dinosaur - the earth was covered in vegitation, animal life was abundant and food for all beings was pleantiful. Perhaps the decrrease in global vegitation is do to TOO much OXYGEN? Perhaps the next theory - will be that the earth isn't making enough CO2 - so we need to invent ways to man make more CO2. That will get the money flowing into the science community wont it? Thing is - no one - not the GLOBAL WARMING community nor the NOT GLOBAL WARMING communtiy really knows anything for ceertain. ALL their theories are will - just theories. No one has proven anything yet. So, since I, like (probably all of) you am not a climatologist, I will hold off judgement on which side is right, untuil one side or the other provides indisputable evidence. |
Enough skeeter crap - I'm out of this stupid thread ;-)

Well the first part of it anyway, then it kind gets into Mac & Coffee vs. 9 PCs & 8TB of storage, while migrating into Thai content and server access. |
In all fairness, it is only logical that it is filtered. Bad news is bad for the economy. Hell, if the US Gov't thought they could have gotten away with denying the 9/11/2001 attacks on the WTC, I'm sure they would have.

Understood. However - my point was - that both sides are of the same goal. Neither wants a solution. The governement (depending on what committee) is surpressing findings on ALL SIDES. The rest of my ramblings, dealt with the whole concept of global climate change.. and that NEITHER SIDE has a clue! |
