so, I walk into a grocery store last night...
 

So, I walk into a grocery store last night to buy some beer. I get to the register and the lady swipes my beer across the scanner thing and asks for my id. I pull it out, hand it to here and she says "Im sorry, I can't sell you this beer". I said "why?" She says " I can smell alcohol on you, and store policy says I can't sell you beer". I stated that I had not had any beer today, thus for me coming in to purchase it.. and that didn't get me anywhere. So, it hit me, i bet my hands smell like beer from carrying it up to the counter... maybe some beer broke and spilled on the box, So, I asked for management.. again, i got no where. Needless to say, I didn't get to buy beer from that store. Not a biggie, but defiantly enough to cause a pissy mood.

That is my sob story for the day. :(

heh i'd never be able to buy beer if that rule was applied around here.

maybe, i was so focused on buying my beer, Santa could have been behind me with 3 naked chicks and I would have missed it.

Wow that is really a terrible policy I think. I mean, if a person REALLY has just walked in from work, grabs a case and there's some leakage and they won't sell to you, thats BS.

The same person with a stuffy nose could let someone leave drunk as shit on their way to some fatal accident. Not good policy, not their job either. And I'm no huge fan of drinking.

I went to one store near my place and they wouldn't sell to me because they couldn't scan my Florida licence into their machine or some shit.

It is a private company using a policy that it has adopted for it's ow reason. How in the hell does that have anything to do with a free country? Unless of course you think in a free country there should be laws that prevent private businesses from adopting their own policies.

Reminds me of the time I went out, and didn't drink because I wasn't feeling well and some drunk chick rocked the table and a whole pitcher went into my lap.

On one hand, it is their right to not sell you anything.

On the other hand, I would raise a royal shit (as calmly and cooly as possible) about it before I left, and make sure that they knew that I would be telling everyone how much they sucked, and that I would never shop there again.

I'm not very familiar with "supermarket laws" in the US, but seriously, what's the point? I mean, if you're buying beer, you're going to drink it and then you'll smell like beer. So they won't sell it to you if you already smell like beer?

I mean, I know that this is supposed to stop rampant drunks, but stop and think for a minute. It seems like a retarded way to do it. Imagine you just had one beer. Your breath will smell like beer. They're not going to sell you another one because "one is enough"?
