Linux or Ms hosting???

Which is better Linux or Ms Hosting? I'm about to add another hosting packagem and was just wondering which is better for adult webmastering?

Lycanthrope 01-29-2007 08:24 PM

FreeBSD :P

directfiesta 01-29-2007 08:25 PM

Linux ( or equivalent flavor : Centos, Fedora, etc...).

Windows is more vulnerable an mainly used by people with " special needs "

TheSenator 01-29-2007 08:37 PM

I don't know of any big time adult webmaster using MS...

Linux all the way... I use Redhat

Odysseus 01-29-2007 08:46 PM

Linux
only
;)

LOL at Windows hosting

Phil LoadedCash 01-29-2007 09:05 PM

I had a small web hosting company for 2 years, and never once did I ever consider selling windows. Linux is the best, no doubt, stick with it. A lot of people don't even know what Windows hosting is like, so they won't even try it.

PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE 01-29-2007 09:09 PM

Windows hosting has its place (like for people who don't have any knowledge of unix and cannot/don't want to afford an administrator to do maintenance and setup).

Linux has a lot of vulnerabilities, so don't believe everything you hear about it being bulletproof and invulnerable. Keep it updated and you shouldn't have any problems though.

My two cents...

So it's easier to administer than Linux? I was sweating the fact that I might have to administer a Windows web server.

Masterchief 01-29-2007 09:21 PM

Linux is just as unsecure when not managed properly, just as Windows is.

windows is a piece of cake to manage. although as said above, it should only be for special needs.:2 cents:

Bruce_Miller 01-29-2007 09:28 PM

Any Unix flavor is our preference, we use FreeBSD on all our servers except our cam server. Geting a hosting company that will manage it for you is also a good option.

lelahosting 01-29-2007 10:14 PM

linux!

have your host manage it or hire a systems admin. if you are not fluent with linux or windows servers you do not want to try to manage it yourself unless it is fine if you get hacked

ae-sc 01-29-2007 10:17 PM

Linux. Either Red Hat, Fedora, or CentOS

DaddyHalbucks 01-29-2007 10:33 PM

Linux all the way --unless you like the high cost, high resource useage, and security challenges of MS.

;)

rowan 01-29-2007 10:35 PM

Stick with 'nix based hosting, especially if you want to run PHP scripts. PHP has a Windows version but there are subtle differences that may break a script.

Fizzgig 01-30-2007 12:01 AM

I've never used Windows hosting or even been tempted to.
:(

borked 01-30-2007 12:09 AM

freebsd here

BlueWire 01-30-2007 12:10 AM

Is this a fucking joke? You did not just ask if a microsoft product was better than linux? :winkwink: :error :error :error

Ange 02-04-2007 12:52 PM

linux I would say

Ange 02-04-2007 12:54 PM

chaze 02-04-2007 01:54 PM

Linux is much better.. more secure, faster, more reliable...

In fact windows used a bunch of code from Linux for xp, that's why it was actually decent for windows standards.

Himuro 02-04-2007 02:27 PM

Fedora is the shit

u-Bob 02-04-2007 02:35 PM
