Apparently you take a lot at face value. The banana skins are not literally smoked, they are soaked in absinthe, then baked at low temp so as not to remove the alcohol, and then the active ingredients are scrapped off. That is what is smoked. (It's legal by the way).
You are also wrong about Tujone and THC. I am very familiar with the folk-science which (I believe in order to keep absinthe legal), states that there is no similarity between Tujone and THC, but read this account by an actual chemistry scientist:

Just because you haven't tried it, shouldn't make you doubt what I say, and more importantly, smoking this shit will definitely kick your ass.
After visiting Thailand and SE Asia back in the 70's, and smoking opium and real Thai stick, for years I laughed at people in the states that claimed what they were selling was genuine Thai stick, when it was actually a similarly prepared concoction to what I described, bud treated with various non-opiate chemicals (and as Cheech and Chong joked, it was "tied to a stick"). It still got you high, but it was a way different trip.
