The First Annual GFY Haiku Contest
 

The winner, as judged by popular vote, gets a 1 night, all expenses paid imaginary date with Cheshire (please don't inform her of this.. ). Maximum 2 entries per person.

A Haiku is a 3 line, non-rhythmic poem in the following form: Line 1: 5 syllables, Line 2: 7 Syllables, Line 3: 5 Syllables

My first entry:

Happy elephant
Twelve fluffers sigh in relief
Splat! A cry cut short

Dim like sum are you
To offer Cheshire as prize
I must kick your ass

Oh no you can't back out now Gutterboy. I put alot of thought into mine (you have no idea "is bastard one syllable or two?") and as long as Cheshire is game keep it going.... hers is a lot beeter than mine though.

There are more rules to Haiku than 5-7-5...

A true Haiku describes a nature scene. It does so by capturing a brief moment, generally without any people or man-made objects in it. It will also be somehow apparent from the conent which season is being described.

The reason many Haiku describe nature scenes is that Haiku's most famous composer, Basho, was an itinerant, wandering zen master. It is not a formal rule of Haiku that it must be about nature, it just happens that many of the more well known ones were composed on that subject.
