I really need a dedicated server I guess
 

8 Months after starting my site I got about 20k daily visitors. This may not look that much to all the professionals around here but I am pretty happy about it, so happy in fact that I was considering to build a few more. That will have to wait though after a mail I got from my host. I hate to go public with it but they leave me no other choice, this is a phrase from the actual mail:

many hits and consequently kept crashing the shared apache service. I set
a restriction on the domain: it can receive 50 connections in 5 seconds which resets every 5 seconds. This is to bring down the load on your
server, but still leave your site operational.


This is pretty f***ed up and there's nothing I can do, meanwhile my stats (and earnings) are going down by the minute! Has anyone experienced the same in the past? Looks like I need a dedicated (Windows) host capable to handle at least 20000 hits right now! Any suggestions about what to do would be more than welcome. Thanks in advance!

That is normal with virtual hosting. Your plan should include an amount of transfer, it's your job to know what is going on with your sight. At least you didn't get a big overage bill.

THat host acted professionnaly : it left you on line!
I know of some others ( the 250 gb space / 2 terabyte bw for 8.95 ) would have just took you off.

You can now upgrade to a VPS ( I do not offer that, but Baddog does ) or a full dedicated server ( I can offer deds from 89.00 and up. )
