know anyone with a heated driveway?

they're like 10k installed, cant tell if that includes the concrete. I do not understand why this isn't standard in the midwest.

Juicy D. Links 01-27-2007 08:24 PM

thats a good idea... i take it they use those tubes under it and flow hot water and such through em?

essentially yep, they have sensors that detect precip and temperature and automatically turn on.

that's nice .. I have a big driveway and it would save money in the long run if it holds up ..

Waveu6410 01-27-2007 08:33 PM

Wouldn't your car's tires melt or caught fire?

I hope thats a joke....

Anywho My dad's garage has a heated floor in it. Works pretty slick. Great for North West Pa when you are climbing under a car in January.

Kimo 01-27-2007 09:19 PM

damn thats a good idea

rowan 01-27-2007 09:20 PM

In Australia we'd run chilled water through the pipes. :1orglaugh

(It dips below freezing about 2 times a year where I live. For a few hours in the morning.)

You have to lay the tubing under the garage floor so many inches, so unless you wanna rip out all the existing concrete its kind of something you have to do ahead of time. :winkwink:

Ah... so it's winter now in civilized world?? Never noticed :)

The sun heats my driveway consistantly all year round and the pool is at... a decent jacuzzi temperature.

Sounds strange... was speaking with someone who had never actually stood in snow and asked what it felt like - told them they don't want to know ;-)

DateDoc 01-27-2007 11:03 PM

10K seems cheap for a heated concrete driveway

Jace 01-27-2007 11:07 PM

I would say the mid-east and north would have more use for it

Jace 01-27-2007 11:09 PM

on a side note, i never understood why kansas was considered the midwest, and some of those other states in the "midwest" are pretty damn north to me

duh! north and south have nothing to do with east and west.... totally differant matrix's- one measures right to left, the other top to bottom. the midwest got its name because its half way to the west coast. your brain was given to you for a reason. ;) use it.

heated driveways are bullshit anyways.... buy a rover and forget about it. cant afford a rover? get a rubicon, cant afford a rubicon? get out of the porn biz and get a real job. after you make a few bucks... buy a really old truck or jeep and mount a plow on it. problem solved.... permantently.

what if you're poor? on food stamps and such?

sharp 01-27-2007 11:28 PM

pretty cool idea. never had one.

spunky99 01-27-2007 11:31 PM

they're pretty common out here in the big houses, anything thats on a hill / side of the mountain.. wish i had it.. it runs sum sort of antifreeze mixture through it

EscortBiz 01-27-2007 11:33 PM

depends on many factors but 10k is on the low low low end

I am using it, and I see Kansas as being midwest (i mixed up what I said above, i meant to say Kansas was the only one that seemed midwest), but if you look at a map, most of the "midwest" states aren't even in the west at all, they are east

qwe 01-27-2007 11:36 PM

my eat sh!t loads of energy too...

for instance, how in anyones right mind is Kentucky considered midwest? it is one state away from the eastern shore...LOL

reynold 01-30-2007 02:56 AM

I don't know of anyone who has that. Donald Trump probably.

sexxxydesign.com 01-30-2007 03:02 AM

a friend of mine in Miami has one.. but it malfunctions and goes over 100F most of the time

SleazyDream 01-30-2007 03:39 AM

i've heard of them but i just figgured it was cheaper to hire a snow clearing service.

one might think it would get bogged up with too much snow... but then again - if it worked on the driveway and sidewalk to the house might be a great idea.

all depends on heating costs too though if it's economically viable but if the house is geothermal heat and it's fed though that might not be a bad idea and would be cheap to do as well :2 cents:

"Currently, the average price of our heated driveway system is between $12 and $21 per square foot."

emthree 01-30-2007 04:40 AM

Has to be way more.
