Do you need to know MYSQL or PHP in order to use wordpress?

VexXxed 01-25-2007 09:41 PM

Using a blog makes it so even a novice, with no html/script/ftp/etc knowledge whatsoever, can run a fully functional website.

http://www.google.com

keyword: blog

and go make yourself a blog.

aico 01-25-2007 10:15 PM

A blog script allows you to use other resources like Word, email, your phone, to add content. It also automatically creates RSS feeds for you, plus many other things that would all be extra work in Dreamweaver.

You can also do it from any computer anywhere.

mySQL not at all. The most basic php is useful but not needed. HTML and CSS are required if you do not want to begging or paying for help every time you want to add or change something.

WordPress is obviously useful for running a blog, but also as a fairly powerful CMS (content management system), packaging up for you all the things like automated internal linking, RSS feeds, etc that you need to run all kinds of sites well. Even the ability to do something such as deliver compressed pages is no more complex than clicking on an option.

Since blogs are free... why not? No investment, besides time.

I have very little skill in any web lanuage, php, html, mysql, hell english escapes me on a frequent basis.

Wordpress and all the documentation provided with it, is dead simple. If you free host with them it's even easier. If you have your own host with a decent control panel, then the creation of a mySQL db is silly easy. (Personally I'm on webair). And the more you play with it and try new things the easier it gets.

Then from there you can change links, themes, manage posts, manage everything from an easy control panel. That's the advantage IMO. Take a little time to learn it and you won't be dissapointed.

Mr Cashman 23 01-26-2007 02:57 PM

Lance. Thank You. Will DO!
