yo

i dont want the field to have more than 55 characters.

my xls file has already 6000 lines of data , i want to limit and format exisitng data in a column so that it dont exceed 55 characters.

how i do this?

When you are doing your set-up, in the menu bar select Data, then Validation. In the pop-up, under the Settings tab, you can set the type of characters (validation criteria), and minimum/maximum number of characters.

Depending on your OS and version, it might be slightly different - if so, go to the Excel Help section and type a few of the key words I listed, and you should find the solution.
