Did the math last night - and I figured out that it's going to cost me over $400K ...
just to put both of my kids through private school up until the 12th grade! :Oh crap
... and that doesn't include college! :helpme So, BUY SOME CONTENT, ok? See sig! :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh |
I'm all for private school, but $20k a year per kid, dizZAMN brotha'. Those kids better cure cancer, AIDS, or ED so Juicy can finally get some poon without popping a C.
|
It depends on if the public schools in your area are good or not...If not, thier safety/education is more important then $$$$...
|
You did 200k in Vegas fucker...lol so next year do Vegas again and THERE YA GO
|
jstyles is my dadyy

It is what it is. Cheap? No! Inexpensive? No! It cost my mother bus pass and lunch money My grandma lived on less per year before she passed. Families of 4 live on less per year. Hey, I'm really not complaining. This happens to be the education we want for our kids and I feel it's worth it. :2 cents: The number just shocked me :upsidedow |
Good education costs much these days.
|
Talk with a financial planner who does education planning.
|
Kudos for doing that for your kids, man. :thumbsup
That's INSANE. |
wow that sounds like too much money just for school
but if its whats best....:) |
I was doing some of the math on what it has cost me, and mine is ONLY 1 year and 7 months, and the amount is amazing.
|
j$ you're the most wheelin and deelin guy i know, if anyone can do it you can!
|
My parents put me through private school for about 5 years @ 20k a year. I think it is a terrible idea unless your kids need 1 on 1 attention and a really structured environment. All of my children will go through the public system, get in fights, do stupid shit, and learn. We all turned out just fine... right?
|
my kid has been in private school since preschool... he's in the second grade now and it cost $12k this year. Goes up a bit every year. Seems like alot until I look at the other kids running around here, then I figure its worth the money.
|
I went to a private school from 4th through 8th grade, and it didn't cost anywhere near that.
Anyone paying $15k a year is obviously doing it to keep their kids around their own kind. This can't be about education. |

Hat off to you for giving your kids that education :thumbsup But yea.. silly money. I'm just forking out just over $200K for the son of a friend in the US to attend college - was shocked at the cost, but at least he won't have the baggage of loans to repay. The flipside is there are excellent colleges/universities locally and was checking them out with a student doing his PhD and ask him how much it was costing for the extra time - total of $300 annually :1orglaugh |
Wow.
I guess I'm going to follow throught with my plan to get snipped. |
I would love to listen in to the conversation DirtyWhiteBoy would have with his daughter on her first date
"Remember, take it in the ass or the mouth so you don't get knocked up you little whore" |
if the kids are smart they will be in advanced classes with smarter kids surrounding them. From my experience with lots of friends private schooling is a waste.

If your kid could goto the same school and same grade as Bill Gate's kid, would you send him? Probably! In life, it's not so much what you know, but who you know. Case in point, U.S. President George Bush :) |

I could say more but let's leave it at that. My mother loved and loves me as I did AND do her ... but she couldn't 'be there - she was always working. My wife and I want a better and different childhood for our children. My kids have real life experiences. They might be slightly sheltered but they have balance. On top of reading, writing and arithmatic - in school my daughter learns about art, 3 different languages (Spanish, German and Hebrew), music, communication, problem solving, creative and imaginative play, athletics and respect of the people and the world she lives in. Granted, alot of who she is today and who she becomes in the future starts with us as parents and what WE teach her ... but the school's philosophy is very similar to ours. And my wife is very active at the school. My 9 yr old daughter has friends from all socio economic backgrounds, she has playdates, goes horseback riding, plays with her dolls, draws, paints, plays with her baby brother, and spends quality time with our family amongst many other activities. Eventually she will/may grow out of these things - but for a 9 year old what else does she need? I'm not even going to get into my son right now, but my daughter is one of the smartest, well adjusted and caring human beings I know ... and she's only 9! Xmas Eve day she happily spent with my wife and her grandmother preparing FULL meals for 11 families in Pacoima that are less fortunate than ours. She knows why and she feels sad and very deeply that those families and their children would not have had "a chrstmas dinner" otherwise. What experience is she missing out on by not being in a public school? :winkwink: |

That's the point :thumbsup |
I've been to private and public schools. Public schools are **excellent** in my area (of course, I live in an expensive suburb, so I guess you get what you pay for as far as taxes go). The only people who go to private schools around here are either snobs or people who have been expelled from the local public schools. No thanks. Public all the way for me.

Harvard is about 20kish a year from what I heard recently, I don't think Notre Dame is up there yet...those are the only 2 good HS's that I know the rough pricing of offhand.
As for the grade school, are they really stacking up the same paper that the HS's are these days? ouch! |
Most of the people I know who went thru the private school system are fucked up in one way or the next. I think public is better for real life experiences. Sheltering your kids does them no good.

... and this school is NOT just a school for RICH people. I'm not RICH imo. Yeah, I make what most consider alot of money - but that's all relative. The school also offers tuition adjustments for MANY students :2 cents: ... and there's a difference between slightly sheltered and ignorant to the world. My kids are slightly sheltered and I prefer them to be. Things in life aren't neccesarily appropriate for all children. That's the decision all parents have to make. Our decision is our decision. It's what we choose and how we want our kids to be educated ... and that doesn't make other parents decisions wrong. :2 cents: |
My son was in private school from K-6. He decided he wanted to go to public school so he wouldn't have to wear a uniform. That year the public school kids started wearing uniforms.
|
If you're going to spend that much, maybe it's better to homeschool them

I went to private school for 6 months, and as someone already said, unless your kids need special attention, it's not worth it.
All we did was smoke weed every break to make it through the next class, when the teachers chew your food. |

Strange thing is America is coming to a cross roads with its education system and nobody seems to be able to see it. I'd rather spend time trying to better the education system over this global warming nonsense any day. Kids really are the future.
When I have kids it'll be private school or homeschooling for them. Heck, I think I received a decent education but there was still so much fat that could have been cut off. I could have learned in a couple years what was taught to me over 10. |

Being a leader, knowing when and when not to follow. These are skill sets that are necessary and are hard to teach just one-on-one through being educated by mommy and daddy ... they should be experienced imho. My daughter's class has around 30 children. Their teacher is with them from grades 1-8. They will mostly ALL be together for 8 years. They will have to learn how to deal with different characteristics, different attitudes, different cultures AND learn to respect those differences and reslove whatever conflicts arise. The teacher over the course of time knows each child and how they act and react and CARES enough to commit to dealing with and working each child and family individually. There's so much more but again - this is right for us and OUR kids. :2 cents: |
You are a good and a great dad! Yeah private schooling is out of sight these days!
