WTF are these people thinking?!?
Most of these no talent idiots bring 10 friends with them to the audition, are all of their friends tone deaf as well?

I know that I can't sing, if I had a friend who couldn't sing and wanted to audition, I would tell them as gently as possible that they shouldn't.
These peope embarrass themselves on national TV and their friends just stand by while they get laughed at by an enormous audience.

Watching American Idol is like watching Jerry Springer, no matter how miserable your life is you can look at those people and say "hey at least I'm not that fucked up"

The show is magnetic for the delusional, whether it be america, australia or where ever.

I'm delusional, I thought about auditioning last yr at the Rose Bowl. I have too much anxiety though, I don't think I could handle the interviews and press conferences and having to make that "small talk" and be witty and charming on late night talk shows.

I wouldn't be mind being some famous singer though. I guess the rewards are worth it to risk your dignity. You never know. You just MIGHT be discovered.
Hope is what drives people. If you tell people they might as well quit cause they'll never reach their dreams they might as well die and give up now... So they need that hope to keep the going.

Plus you don't need to be a great singer to be famous. All you need is the image and a hit song (a great producer). Plus luck.

I'm pretty sure to be a famous singer you have to at least be able to sing in tune.

Most of these people wouldn't make the cut for the church choir and they have this delusion that they're going to be the next Mariah Carey or Baby Face.

Listen Ive been in singing competitions and placed well, had leads in school plays, sang in front of over 2,000 people, toured with a band for 2 years, been a musician and singer since I was little, I have perfect pitch and know music very well. I would still NEVER compete on American idol because I know I would not win. While Im a competent singer those that end up even past the first few rounds are generally very very good. These nutjobs that go on there are either just that nuts, or as you said totally delusional. Yet that is what makes the show fun to watch the first month or so till they get to the real talent. lol

I like how you think the average American is going on American Idol. And I'm not sure if you're aware, but the show was created in another country, so I'm pretty certain that you can find people who are delusional anywhere, including in this thread.

Actually, you're wrong. You wouldn't believe how many pop singers use auto-tune on their recordings. Sad but true. Just because you're a famous singer doesn't mean you're a great singer, it just means you got lucky. My husband is involved with the music industry and is friends with the owner of the studio he records at, so he gets the inside scoop on some of these things.

It was so bad Diddy had to go on tv and APOLOGIZE for her and saying that she had a "bad day." Listen to that and tell me it's not bad. She would not have made it past the first rounds at American Idol, yet her album was like in the top 10 for awhile.

Yet she's got a hit record and getting airplay on every radio station. She only got famous cause her producer makes hot tracks and she has the right look.

I would not hesitate to make crap pop music with no substance if I could make tons of money. I would go for it in a heartbeat.

Anything for a tv/movie offer. I think most people who auditioned just take the plunge for the sake of it.

yeah some of them...but most of them when they get rejected are either crying or shouting obscenities at the judges.
