I wanna get some and I need ideas, but I don't believe in anything, so I don't know what I should get.

I'm the type that I'll get one and 2 years later I'll hate it.

My right leg is similar to that...more tribal than celtic though.

I met Paul for the 3rd time here in Toronto at the Tattoo convention about a month ago.....I sat for 7 hours getting a Phoenix and he came over to where I was getting tattoo'd to talk to the guy ( Makoto) hitting me.. really normal sounding guy considering his work.

easiest way to get tattoo'd by him now is go to a convention where he is working and pay for his seminar...at the conventions he only Tattoo's people that have been in his seminars....and it is the only chance you'll get to talk to him person to person.

I could recommend a fabulous tattooist in the UK (Dave Ross) but not necessarily designs. You might try something tribalish (although it doesn't need to mean anything) or chinese symbols/dragons for something more colourful.

I shouldn't really talk about design though; I've only got one tattoo and its only a small Disney's Piglet. In that light I suppose you should pick something that means a lot to you. Piglet will prolly look sad and silly in 20 years but it will always mean something to me.

What happens if you get a colored tattoo, do they fade after a while? I just know I see old guys with lots of shitty tattoos that are all dark green and faded and look like hell.

Paul Booth is the dogs bollocks. Must fly out one day and get some work done by him.

As for designs...just pick something that means something for you. Don't look on it so much as a tattoo but more as art and pick some artwork that you like and that means something. Then find a tattooist capable of doing it. If they have loads of flash books and no/few pics of actual tattoos then go elsewhere. A talented artist will have a lot of examples of completed work.

The exception is as the other half pointed out - tribal stuff. Even then it's more fun to get a book on real Samoan or Celtic art and get a design from there.

They all fade a little and some colours more so than others. Generally the brighter the colour the quicker it'll fade ie white and yellow fade quickest. However it depends on your skin (some skin takes pigment far better than others) and how much sun as sun is a killer for colour.

Even so you can always get it redone when it does fade.

Exactly it. Tattoos needn't look faded and crappy. Even rubbish done 30 years ago can be covered easily by a talented artist.

My elbow hurt me the most. And the inside crotch of the elbow, what my tattoo guy calls "the pits", it fucking killed. Swoll up huge, ended up bruising pretty good in that area.

How was the neck amp compared to say inside arm?

I have been debating lower front part of neck (slightly below neckline) or back of neck.

I had a 4 hour session on the ribs at my side and that had to be the worst to date. Towards the end I was biting a towel and succeeding on pulling some of my hair out (not that I have much to spare). Fuck, I hate pain. Keep going back though.

inside of the arm, wrist, and back of the leg were all cake....

the neck was a whole new level of Hell bro..... worst pain ever.

Sheeeeit...I can't Imagine much worse then behind the knee...or right around the nipple...Those have so far pushed me right to the edge...

If getting the neck done is worse than those...I might just skip it.

I hear ya. So far I have had between 25 and 30 hours total work. Most of it not so bad. It ALL hurts me like hell, but it is do-able for the most part. I love the stories my guy tells me. Said he has had big guys that as soon as he hits the skin, they faint, puke, shit themselves... you name it. Makes me feel good about those moments during the process that make me want to cry like a 6 year old girl. I couldnt even imagine what ribcage would feel like. Damn.

At a couple points during the work, I sat there thinking to myself... thats it, no more, fuck it. But then an hour after that sitting is done, I am thinking about next visit. It is horribly addicting.

You get a whole new appreciation for people who do those magnificent asian body suits. Those are some hard boys.

Damn, if you thought wrist was cake, then I am definitely not going to be getting that neck done. Even my tattooist said that his neck work was the only pieces that made him want to die. And he was covered hard.

And the inside of wrist killed me, the closer to the hand, the worse it gets.

yep.... inside of the wrist was pretty bad.... 1mm away and completely around my nipple was insanely painful..... back of the leg made me wanna cry like a girl.....

but the neck shot...

nothing fucking compares dude.... trust me.... you'd rather drink hydrochloric acid.

thanks brutha..... I can't wait to get it all finished.... fucking healing time takes what seems like forever... plus, I can't go in the sun or saltwater or anything while I'm healing, so I stretch out sessions quite a bit, cuz let's face it.... life without surfing simply is not worth living... but I'm gettin' there... my next session I get yellows & oranges put in... then more healing.... then we start connecting it all together with some background stuff.....

then I can work on upper chest, the rest of the neck, sides (rib shots) and the other half of my back..... :glugglug
