been in a car crash and how did it happen?

have any of you been in a car crash while you were driving and how did it happen?

i was almost in one last night when some crazy homeless dude was walking through traffic in a 3-lane highway. it was almost like frogger but if i didnt swerve into the middle lane he wouldnt have made it. luckily i was able to dodge him and traffic coming up behind me in the lane beside me

Four times. Once I skidded on oil in a Pathfinder. Another time I slammed a Civic into my friends Dakota Sport because he braked suddenly for no apparent reason. Another time I was in the back seat of a Cuore and we got hit in the side by one of thos VW hippie buses. The last time I was in the back seat of a Corolla and the chick driving didn't stop at the stop sign and a car hit the door I was sitting at at around 50 kmph.

In that last one I got pretty scared because I saw it coming.

Oh, and I did an emergency landing in a C172 because there was water in the fuel and my engine gave up on me. Only broke the front gear and the prop. :thumbsup

I spun out on ice once, across the median into on-coming traffic.

Then I rolled a taxi upside down into a ditch once in Thailand.

Had a few fender benders other than that, but nothing to top those two, which I walked away from both.

Both me and my gf was taken to the hospital. She was flown in with a helicopter (lots of broken bones). I only got a fucked up back.

Anyway, the idiot who hit us was going WAY to fast and had no control.

WoW Dude thats serious! I never actually hit anything moving before but I took my moms old Ford Fiesta to private rally course in a abandoned airfield(grass and gravel). On the long straight I sped up to about 100 Km/h when I hit something I didnt see in the snow(it was like a railroad track piece). The whole front suspension, wheels and everything was ripped free, tearing of my mufflers. I was shaking after that adventure. Dont do that rally thing anymore... Im glad you survived that. My relative is in hospital, she was hit by a lorry and 2 cars, doctors say theres no hope:(((

I live in South Florida. getting hit by horrible drivers is a regular thing down here. Been in 5 or 6 accidents...all of them were deemed the other driver's fault. lots of idiot drivers down here.

I was playing catch up on a Friday night and chugged a half pint of Jack Daniels on my way to the club and then had a few more from my bartender friend. In that short time I had already drank enough to pass out. It was only a matter of time. I started stumbling and decided to try and drive the two miles back home.

Half way there on the main road through town I lost control on a curve, over corrected jumped the curb and wrapped my car around a concrete light pole.
I was pinned inside and had to be cut out. I survived with only bruised ribs and legs and some minor cuts on my head from the shattered T-tops. I was wearing my seatbelt.

I was extremely lucky that night as it could have ended so many different ways. I'm extremely grateful that I didn't envolve someone else causing them harm. That was back in '83 and I haven't drove after drinking since. I learned my lesson well and will not waste my second chance.

Here are a few pics of my Z 28 after the crash

Too many to count :(

The most memorable one was when I was sitting cross legged in a vintage car (no safety glass) and we were going around traffic at the local skating rink. We hit a manhole cover that stopped the car. Cops said when you hit someone, you "bounce back" but we stopped at full speed. I hit the windshield, then the dashboard. Several facial injuries (and glass flecks surfacing in my face for over a year), broken foot and a few other things - this was 25+ years ago and memories fade ;) The guy I was with who owned the car was fine. I learned NOT to sit cross legged in a car.

I was visiting friends in a small town in GA and my Dad flew down from ATL, slept in a spare hospital room, drove my car back to MY college town, got a ride back from one of my dorm mate's boyfriend and I had to take a Greyhound a week later when I was discharged because I couldn't drive and there were no planes from one town to the other. Pure hell. Plus I scared the crap out of the kids in the skating rink when I walked in to the bathroom - they thought I had fallen skating :)

Had a handicapped placard for about 6 months - we'd cram 10 of us in my little Celica to go to classes in!

I was pulling out of a little store, taking a left onto a very busy 2 way road. Stop light only 5 or 6 car lengths to the right had turned red, so I creeped out leaning forward looking to the right to make sure nobody was turning right from that crossroad, nobody was so I continued into the lane and wham, a guy blazing down the road who ran the red light tried to occupy my space.

The edge of his bumper on the left rear snagged the edge of my bumper on the right front, and yanked the bumper off the right side of my car (and pulled out the wheel well). We agreed not to report it.

Asshole reported it and I had to go to the police and do a report too. His insurance called me all puffed up threatening me and I told them that they should talk to their client again because he'd told me he was speeding, ran a red light, was late for work, and there was not enough damage to involve insurance and thats what I just told the police. The end.

Also have hit a dear driving my then girlfriends car. Winter road, slid about 50 feet right into the damn thing.. deer caught in the headlights is real. It just stood there.

17 years ago - minivan hit me in the passenger site cause i did a left turn without watching the traffic. no one was hurt - just i had some glass sticking in the face

Tom_PM 01-24-2007 11:00 AM

Damn thats what woulda happened to me too. I was super lucky how his bumper barely snagged mine and just ripped it off. One in a million.
Then again he was the ass for breaking any number of rules.. assholes suck.
