Wordpress 2.1 Ella is OUT!! WHOOOOUUU

Guys I am very glad to see the new version of Wordpress released! I've just spotted it in my wp dashboard.....here's the link: http://wordpress.org/development/2007/01/ella-21/

And the features:

* Autosave makes sure you never lose a post again.
* Our new tabbed editor allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post.
* The lossless XML import and export makes it easy for you to move your content between WordPress blogs.
* Our completely redone visual editor also now includes spell checking.
* New search engine privacy option allows you take you to indicate your blog shouldn?t ping or be indexed by search engines like Google.
* You can set any ?page? to be the front page of your site, and put the latest posts somewhere else, making it much easier to use WordPress as a content management system.
* Much more efficient database code, faster than previous versions. Domas Mituzas from MySQL went over all our queries with a fine-toothed comb.
* Links in your blogroll now support sub-categories and you can add categories on the fly.
* Redesigned login screen from the Shuttle project.
* More AJAX to make custom fields, moderation, deletions, and more all faster. My favorite is the comments page, which new lets you approve or unapprove things instantly.
* Pages can now be drafts, or private.
* Our admin has been refreshed to load faster and be more visually consistent.
* The dashboard now instantly and brings RSS feeds asynchronously in the background.
* Comment feeds now include all the comments, not just the last 10.
* Better internationalization and support for right-to-left languages.
* The upload manager lets you easily manage all your uploads pictures, video, and audio.
* A new version of the Akismet plugin is bundled.

Pretty amazing, eh :) ? :thumbsup :thumbsup

Wordpress fucking ROCKS!

The Sultan Of Smut 01-22-2007 10:11 PM

Just installed it on one domain 99% problem free. One plugin didn't work but there was an update on the author's website so the end result was 100% success :)

tenderobject 01-22-2007 10:32 PM

anyone have tried upgrading 1.5.2 to higher version without getting problem?

martinsc 01-22-2007 10:46 PM

LiveDose 01-22-2007 10:48 PM

I will upgrade soon.

Sarah_Jayne 01-23-2007 03:14 AM

Anyone having a problem when they upgrade with the links section of their blog showing up an error on the actual page? That whole area in the admin has changed so I am trying to figure out what I have to fix.

Sarah_Jayne 01-23-2007 03:19 AM

looks like the link categories and the post categories have been merged or something?

if somebody is *gasp* running personal blog that isn't for profit and is intended for a private audience they may not want to be picked up by the search engines

Sarah_Jayne 01-23-2007 06:28 AM

looks like nearly everybody is having this problem...how does one downgrade back to the old version? Luckily, I tested it on my latest and least developed blog. Another thing I didn't like is that the firefox on the fly spell check thing doesn't work with it anymore. It has its own spell check but I purposely misspelled words and ran the spell check and it didn't catch them.

Funny you should mention that...

Whether there is a good reason for the change or not, the old "links" are now "bookmarkers", so all but a couple of variations of the original ways to display them no longer work. A simple change of line to (at its most basic) wp_list_bookmarks() does the trick.

BUT this particular area of change also has a couple of flaws. You are supposed to be able to over-ride the list wrappers, except it turns out someone hardcoded them, so you cannot. If it is a problem for you, edit wp-includes/bookmark-template.php

Overall tho, I was surprized how easily the upgrade went and it is a definite improvement, particularly in respect of having better-written SQL queries.

onlinecasino 01-27-2007 08:57 AM

mmm interesting stuff :2 cents:

xenilk 01-27-2007 09:06 AM

I personnaly use my home made blog. But I'm sure a lot of people will be happy with this!
