... I see that on some people's site with a paypal button or some other type of banner as a way of trying to get surfers to "donate" money.

Does this work or does it just make you look greedy.

Depends on whether your site has a following or not. If you're mainstream enough then try out google adsense or another similar banner campaign.

I bet they do get donations--- not a bad idea ---

yes they do get, its the only reason we see so many donation buttons around. But I don't like adding such button on my website, It hurt my self-esteem.

I haven't done it, but i've heard from people that have that it does work and can be a nice chunk of extra change. :thumbsup
