I don't think so - the Internet killed off true amateur porn. Yes there are girls and couples who run their own sites but the truth is once they've been in biz for a little while they are no longer amateurs and are not much different than any other commericial porn producer pumping out 'content'. At one time real amateurs sold their footage to Homegrown Video but the Internet gave those types of people an outlet of their own so people who once would have sent tapes to Homegrown now open their own sites like NaughtyAllie.

The only real amateur porn I think left are these girls doing strip teases in their bedrooms that end up on YouTube type sites and the celeb sex tapes. I think that's why they're so popular, it is true amateur porn.

Defining what amateur is, is definately tricky...

There is one very simple one though. An amateur porn movie is a movie made by private people without a production company behind it. When a private person becomes a small production company, that of course is discussable..

Coming from someone who started out as amateurs, staying within that role has been difficult. We are still a husband and wife run company. we started out with one site back in 99. Now we have a small network which includes VOD and DVD sales. Each site is different, they are not cookie cutter sites with the same content recycled over and over. The biggest issue was whether to stay a true "amateur" or aspire to something bigger. My wife and I shoot and edit all of our own content, we update our sites, we promote ourselves as best we can. BUT, we have moved into high grade equipment, invested thousands and thousands of dollars in studios, cameras, lights, designers and models. The fact that we are an "amateur" company has been a bit of a detractor when it comes to wholesale distribution of our product, as even though we have been around for quite a while, we are still a "new" and "untested" company....

I still shoot amateur "style" porn with the ceiling light as the lighting and a regular video camera..However, since I get paid to do it, I'm a pro. I always want to give off the feel that it's just some dude in a house or cheap hotel doing what he would have been doing anyway, except a camera is on while it's happening.

If I use our old camera, turn off my lights, don't clean up before we shoot, then it looks amateur. But, the next thing we have is our members asking for better light, sexy little outfits, better quality stills. On and On... You can't stay true amateur without getting professional to some level. On the contrary, I think the internet + technology have been the driving force for amateur porn, it seems to be going stronger than ever.
