It's how the owners spread the wealth of fans paying big money for admission to the the events and products sales on top of that. :2 cents:

ok..very simply like everything else..if there is a demand we/they offer to supply it..so we demand sports and therefore they pay them millions to throw a ball in a hole..??

You wouldn't want your favorite football player driving a 1981 piece of crap.

Walmart has many more employees. If you make Walmart a example then what about almost every business owner in the United States that makes a ton more then pay their employees.

Good business owners know what the combined output of their labor force is worth. Employees are paid a fraction of that amount. Same applies to sports franchises. Except cities help pay stadium and logistical expenses with tax money. Marketing is shared with local business and the league. There is a lot of money to throw at players to get winners.

i could care less what they drive and own and where they live..I'm not swept up in all that hype..I was just wondering what people thought about how much they get paid to do such simple things...especially basketball players..10 million a year to throw a ball in a hoop..

WHY?

reynold 01-21-2007 09:35 PM

I think it's because we are paying to see the images/names attached to the athletes.

How many passes can you catch with a guy who runs a 4.3 40 and has a 44" vertical leap draped all over you? Or how many shots are you going to get past a 7 footer who is right in front of you?

But, you're right about the pay scale being out of whack in relation to what pro athletes, or actors for that matter, are paid to what teachers, police, firemen, etc make for contributing to society.
