USC 2557 Question More Specifically Acceptable ID's
 

My question is regarding id's.

For those in the know what is acceptableas a form of ID.

#1 of course is their drivers license.
#2 passport would of course be acceptable but the simple fact is most americans don't have one...so what else outside of a drivers license would be acceptable for a 2nd form of id.

state id,
military id,
school issued id,
social security card,
green card,
deportation papers,
welfare information...


You only need one with picture the other does not need to be a pic id.

I go for compliance, but I've always wondered... I shoot UK models. How does this US law apply to people from other countries? I mean, some countries don't have photo drivers licenses, etc...

The US law doesnt apply to photographers in other countries.

But, if your customers live or are hosted in the US, then they need documentation that is in compliance with US law, and that basically means that you need to comply with US law.

It doesn't apply to non-US photographers... except that it applies to US websites. I run two US-owned and hosted websites, and sell to US webmasters. Most people have a pretty big US connection somewhere.

Technically you do not need a 2nd ID if the primary ID has all of the 2257 requirements which a drivers license and a passport both have in most cases.

Again, I always err on the side of caution...

...but does 2257 apply to all photos of naked people? Or only "porn", "adult" content, "sexual" content, or photos that tout the youth of the model?

It applies to actual or implied sexual contact. If you want to keep your ass out of a jam then just assume that every shoot you do falls under the requirements.

Photos that tout the youth of a model are currently perfectly legal as long as the model and or the content of the shoots is legal.

Although a 2nd ID is not required I will only buy content from those who get one anyway.

girls can always have fake id's thats why its good to have 2. you dont wanna get locked up for some stupid shit like that. if you have any suspicions of the model having a fake id put her on the spot and ask her to see her wallet. then go through her wallet and check for anything she may have and make sure the names and address matches up. if she wont let you go through her wallet for those reasons, theres a good chance shes hiding something.

I will be asking for 2 forms of id...my concern was what would be acceptable as a 2nd form of id.

From the answers so far is any government issue id which I already knew..i.e. passport state id etc.

Someone also posted social security card..which was something I was wondering about since most people usually just have their drivers license.

So I guess along those lines a birth certificate would also be good.

I would also like to point out that according to usc 2257 we are required to inspect the documents in order to ensure they are not fraudulent etc.
