ID THEFT! Detective threatening me! HELP!
Someone stole my credit card and charged up about $200 in charges including gay porn, flowers & jewelry (sent to ME -- weird). But the STRANGEST part is, some detective sent me a threatening letter (via registered mail) because I supposedly sent him a threatening "greeting card" of all things. Anyway, one of the charges on my credit card was for an online GREETING CARD order. So whoever stole my identity is threatening a detective!
Luckily, my CC address is a maildrop, so the guy doesn't have my home address or phone yet, but I'm on his radar. But it may be a matter of time before the cops knock on my door. I (obviously) reported the fraud to my bank and canceled the card. Any suggestions on what else to do? Ray |

Phone Equifax and explain you have had your identity stolen, they will put a freeze on your name so nobody can open up credit cards in your name

In the report mention the thing about the detective. Ask to speak with the detective and explain what happened. He will surely believe you and thank you for comming in. They want to get the right guy, not you. Just be friendly and say you're sorry that this also happened to him and you hope this person is caught real soon. Also make yourslef available to testify if the guy is caught. They like that!! |
sounds pretty fucked up

Be a man and take responsibility of your actions. You bought that gay porn membership and your wife found out. You had to make up this story with detectives and ufos as an excuse to tell her.... She frequently reads this forum therefore you made this topic in order to defend your lie.
Mrs BizMan2960, we deal with members like your husband all the time. They always come up with stories that their cards get stolen, other ppl use their computers without their knowledge and so on. Yours happen to have some extra imagination. |

I dealt with this a while back. A so called friend of mine stole my identity and in about a 2 week period ran up 40K in bills and bad checks. It was a huge pain in the ass to get fixed. Do as the others have said. Cancel not just that credit card, but call all three of the credit agencies and they will put a guard on your credit so people can't give you credit without calling you and asking for your approval at the number you give. Also change your bank accounts. Banks are now used to dealing with this crap they should be able to change you account numbers pretty easily. If he has your credit card and knows what he is doing he can get your checks, open credit accounts in your name and cause you all kinds of problems. If you have any other credit cards call them, tell them what happened and they should be willing to put a stop on your cards and send you out new ones. It may be a little pain in the ass, but it could be worth it in the long run.
As for the detective, do as someone else said. You don't need to go down there, just call and ask to talk to the detective in question. Explain what happened and tell him it wasn't you. The fastest growing crime in the country is identity theft so the police are used to dealing with it. It sounds like whoever stole your card has a problem with this cop and wanted to harass them and is using you to do it. |
The funny thing is that the detective thinks you would send a threatening card to him for no apparent reason and leave a trace back to yourself. I wouldn't want that dumbass investigating any crime for me.

You live in lala land. Don't bother with the police, get a writer and turn this into a script treatment and make enough money back to bride them all.
Enjoy. |
The only downside is... the only thing that will make an interesting script is some violence. I don't want this to get to that point. ;)
